MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: SEPTEMBER 17-23, 2018! (FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY AND THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY FAIR)
Focusing on friends and family this week—hanging out with my parents and a day at the Los Angeles County Fair (sheep, camel, and pig sightings!)
Enjoy!
Tuesday morning sunrise. I had a pretty hectic Monday and took zero photos. I think the universe just had a hectic Monday including my pottery studio teacher who has a little dog who ate a tide pod so she had to cancel studio.
Leaving early to head to see my mom at hospital. She’s okay—she just had to stay two nights to have a stomach-related procedure done.
Met dad for breakfast in the hospital cafe. We shared some hard boiled eggs and hash browns.
My mom finally gets to eat after like 36 hours without food or water (because of the procedure prep) and she only gets sad hospital liquids. I know it is weird to take photos in a hospital, but it is just the way I process what is happening. It’s sad to see my mom not feeling well, but I’m grateful for that day I got to spend with my mom cheering her up, showing her videos, and keeping her company. A whole day where time stopped a bit and I could just center my attention on family. It’s helpful to recenter like that sometimes. Love you mama.
Wednesday night. My mom kept talking about wanting a cheeseburger when she was in the hospital unable to eat anything. So I had one on her behalf…hahah.
Here at the “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” that my mom bought tickets for a few weeks back. She told all the nurses that her goal was to get out of the hospital by this evening so we could all go to the theater. Happy to report we all made it!
I’m moving! (in October) Posted a little tribute to my apartment.
Been slowly gathering boxes from coworkers and starting to just put non-necessity items away.
Went to see Jill at Sake Dojo and shoot some new photos of new menu items and drinks!
It was nice to shoot there during the day to have some natural light (and to try the katsudon so gooood).
Went will Jill to a tail gate at the Colosseum and snuck some more bbq in.
Been really into this salsa lately, especially with the lime chips.
Leftovers from the tailgate, even tastier day two with all the marinades sinking in.
Spent Saturday boxing up stuff in the apartment kitchen to get a head start for the new place. Every little thing I can do ahead of time just calms my worries little by little.
Both our families generously and kindly also sent extra kitchen stuff that they were no longer using (and I got some stuff from my kind neighbor who was selling her house). So we had some stuff to unpack and put away.
The most plates and bowls we’ve had wowowow so adult. Probably too much stuff now…
Canter’s for a late night reward dinner after packing/unpacking.
Zach aggressively eating soup. His favorite food ever. This is joy.
Sunday, we drove out to Pomona to the LA County Fair.
First things first…we paid $2 to see some big snakes.
So much meat, everywhere. Zach got a sausage and we watched the guy pick out a prime suspect.
Me realizing my true dream. I approached a curly fry stand and asked if they could combine the curly fry bouquet with the nacho cheese and hot cheetos that they have on another fry dish AND THEY SAID SURE.
Would be okay never receiving flowers and only receiving greasy fry bouquets covered in hot cheetos.
James beat us and some kids and won a Rick from Rick and Morty.
Sleepy monkey. So many animals were nocturnal and hiding to try to sleep. Poor babies.
James decided to get a wax hand made because WHY NOT
We all took delight in watching him get it made.
After we played some games (some small wins) we paused for some dippin dots before heading to petting area!
James feeding sheep one piece by one piece. Evil genius.
Thanks for reading!
Much love friends.
I haven’t been to a fair in ages, but I do love them. Your food always just looks so much better than mine! I went to Canter’s tons of times whenever I visited my dad + went to shows! Memories.

So this is slightly weird but I’ve noticed you comment here before(long time reader of these DITLs lol) noticed you seem to have been to a few places in Europe and so decided to click on your name. LO AND BEHOLD, you’re in bloody Sweden now, which is where my partner and I are moving to in literally weeks (long, Brexit-shaped story).
I don’t suppose you have any advice for someone moving from the UK to Sweden? Best moving companies? How does one insure their stuff whilst they’re moving? WILL I LOSE MY MIND? ARE WE DOING THE RIGHT THING? ahahauuggghh.
As you can tell, I am so nervous about the whole thing that I am literally asking strangers on the internet for advice. But here we are. I’ll understand if you ignore this lol

Brexit is making expats of us all, huh? If you’re moving for a job that is already set up, ask if they have any relocation advice or companies they recommend. I wasn’t moving my entire house, so I had a different experience. Also, most removal companies have insurance. The best two are Matthew James Removal and Greens Removals. You are completely doing the right thing, but there is going to be a transition period. If you want to talk more, tweet me @sdmwrites and I can give you warmer advice (and also keep the conversation off Sarah’s page haha). lycka till och säkra resor!
