MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: SEPTEMBER 10–16, 2018! (FIRST LOOKS AT OUR NEW PLACE AND TOO MUCH PACKING PAPER)

Slowly starting to move some things in our new place, a snail face mask, eating Korean wings, and deer sightings.

Enjoy!

Made such a mess on my shirt the night before at pottery that my clothes just stayed in the kitchen overnight.

Homemade nectarine and honey icecream with a side of Ticket to Ride.

Chicken noodle soup made in the crockpot for lunch. It’s nice to have a lot lunch even if leftovers, a change from the usual bagged salad.

Untitled
There was a launch party for the internal website I helped Tristan usability test. Very cute that they had custom names for dishes. I guess usability testing got veggies because it’s necessary but not the most sexy part of a dish ahah.

Untitled
Beautiful view from the party

Send around a message on our work Slack for boxes and so many helpful coworkers offered up moving supplies. I got a BUNCH of paper to wrap dishes and stuff.

Sims 4 with a side of spicy cheese ramen and lounging time with the TV.

Waiting for Tweedy to get his butt squeezed at the groomer.

I ran to the new place where Zach was waiting for a rug delivery and doing a bit of writing.

Spent many hours moving about 20,000 photos from my iPhone to my external hard drive. Then had some more soup.

Another recipe shoot for the amwa cookbook eventually coming out, hopefully in winter.

My local Ralphs has…a lot of incredible Halloween decorations. So tempting. I wish I could just have like 10 giant pumpkins.

Slowly bringing in boxes from my coworkers from my car to the apartment.

Off to eat pasta for Marie’s welcome home dinner. (Welcome home, Marie!)

New place, waiting for some boxes to arrive. Zach’s family kindly sent us some extra furniture and stuff from Texas.

Untitled
Untitled
They sent even more than we were expecting, we spent a few hours unpacking things just to see what exactly we had now.

Some sandwiches for lunch. I had blackened catfish and it was soooo good.

Untitled

The boxes were packed by professionals back in Texas and they were very generous with the wrapping. SO. MUCH. PAPER. EVERYWHERE.

Hollywood Dome to see Predator…which was actually pretty fun.

After the movie we traveled to Korea Town to Chef Kang Food Rehab.

Four flavors of wings: honey, soy garlic, and spicy korean (and a plain). So good.

And now, inspired by the early Internet days of anonymous survey lists and questions, I bring you some questions. These are from glacier-kitty on LJ, a fun list that gives you a question a day for a year. Answer in the comments if you’d like!

  1. September 10 – What is your favorite holiday?
  2. September 11 – Do pineapples go on pizzas?
  3. September 12 – Recommend a book?
  4. September 13 – How old were you when you learned to read?
  5. September 14 – How many states/countries have you been to?
  6. September 15 – Will you vote in the midterm elections?
  7. September 16 – What did you eat today?

  1. September 10 – What is your favorite holiday?
Christmas or Mother’s Day—those are the biggest family get-togethers so that’s what I look forward to. OR NEW YEARS…for the Japanese food.
  2. September 11 – Do pineapples go on pizzas?
They can. I prefer pepperoni, but I won’t stop somebody from enjoying their Hawaiian style.
  3. September 12 – Recommend a book?
I was cleaning out a bookshelf and re-discovered Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet which is a really sweet novel set in Seattle that focuses on two friends, one who is of Japanese descent and is taken into a concentration camp during World War II.
  4. September 13 – How old were you when you learned to read?
I can’t remember…do you learn to read in preschool? Maybe when I was 5 or 6?
  5. September 14 – How many states/countries have you been to?
States: I think 16 if I counted right
Countries: 15 if I counted right!
  6. September 15 – Will you vote in the midterm elections?
    Yep
  7. September 16 – What did you eat today?
It’s just after 2pm, I’ve had cheese puffs, mango kombucha, coffee

Much love friends.

  1. I cannot WAIT to see your new flat (house?) set up; I am particularly enamoured by the cool entryways you have. Good luck!

September 10 – What is your favorite holiday?
    – CHRISTMAS. I love that it’s slightly cooler (I live in the US South, it never gets cold in December), the smells, my mum and I’s weird blending of traditions (German/British) and just everything about it.

September 11 – Do pineapples go on pizzas?
    – Sure, if that’s how you roll.

    September 12 – Recommend a book?
-I’ve been reading so much for my Master’s thesis, but I have also really, really enjoyed (and had my heart broken by) Colony in a Nation by Chris Hayes. Read it if you haven’t, but know you’ll be stopping every few pages in breathless anger.

September 13 – How old were you when you learned to read?
    – Who knows. My mum tells me that I was slow to speak and read because I had two languages to struggle through (German and English) but once I got the hang of switching I was fine.

September 14 – How many states/countries have you been to?
    – I’ve been to every continent except Antarctica and quite a few states, but not even half of them.

September 15 – Will you vote in the midterm elections?
    – I have voted in every possible election since I became registered on 19 Jan 2004; as I remind people, it took two amendments for me to vote (as a Black person and as a woman) so I don’t waste that opportunity.

September 16 – What did you eat today?
-A croissant for breakfast, an authentic German pretzel for a snack, homemade chicken tikka masala (mum made it) and a tasty pudding/cream cheese pie.

  2. New place looks awesome! That door arch is the bees knees. And you should totally make some kind of paper mache art piec using the movie paper. Something iconic to represent the old apt.

September 10 – What is your favorite holiday? It’s a toss up between Christmas and Thanksgiving. Christmas for family and giving and lights and magic. Thanksgiving because my husband and twins are all born on 11/22 which often falls on Thanksgiving.

September 11 – Do pineapples go on pizzas? Sure! It’s not for me but I don’t disagree. I’m not a big fan of pizza.

September 12 – Recommend a book? For fantasy I’d say the Kingkiller Chronicles – otherwise The Goldfinch wa fantastic and I enjoyed The Storied Life of AJ Fikry.

September 13 – How old were you when you learned to read? Kindergarden I think.

September 14 – How many states/countries have you been to? Just America and maybe 8 states or so.

September 15 – Will you vote in the midterm elections? I don’t vote. Sad, I know. I’m not even registered. In the past it didn’t seem to matter but after the last president I’m starting to think I should.

September 16 – What did you eat today? Japanese take out from the mall and then a sub for dinner. Slumming it on the weekend. 🙂
