MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: JUNE 17–23, 2019!

Multiple art museum visits, cooking my own homegrown shishito peppers, backyard movie night with friends, and shooting more delicious food with Jill in Little Tokyo.

Enjoy!

Starting the week with War of the Ring still on the table. The game is pretty complicated, and since it took us 6 hours to play over the weekend we just left it there.

Another Monday, another pottery studio. Threw a few pieces, including a wonky bowl. Then glazed a bunch of pieces.

Came home and Zach was nowhere to be found, but he did leave dinner 90% done on the stove

Got home from work and Zach was furiously applying puffy glue to the different armies in War of the Ring so we can get ORGANIZED.

For some reason we agreed to all meet back up after our 6 hour game on Saturday and try one more time on a weeknight. We thought since we had learned new rules since then that we should try again and it’d be faster.

This time James and I were team Fellowship.

Untitled
We spent a lot of the game confirming rules and reconfirming rules.

Whiskey had to be poured after it passed midnight

And we finished…actually 6 hours as well. We lost sigh. Evil prevailed.

Here to see the Sarah Lucas exhibition at the Hammer

When I was in London, there was a lot of Sarah Lucas around. Fun to see her in the states too. So many dicks.

From their site: “Since the late 1980s, Lucas has transformed found objects and everyday materials such as furniture, cigarettes, vegetables, and stockings into absurd and confrontational tableaux that boldly challenge social norms. The human body and anthropomorphic forms recur throughout Lucas’s works, often appearing erotic, humorous, fragmented, or reconfigured into fantastical anatomies of desire.”

“Bringing together more than 130 works in photography, collage, sculpture, and installation, Sarah Lucas: Au Naturel reveals the breadth and ingenuity of the artist’s practice. The exhibition addresses the ways in which Lucas’s works engage with crucial debates about gender and power–with a particular attentiveness to the legacy of surrealism—from her clever modifications to everyday objects to her exploration of sexual ambiguity and the tension between the mundanely familiar and the disorientingly strange.”

“Lucas has produced throughout her career, the exhibition features biomorphic sculptures including her stuffed-stocking Bunnies (1997–ongoing) and NUDS (2009–ongoing), the Penetralia series (2008–ongoing), and selections from her installations at the Freud Museum in London (2000) and the British Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2015). These works, which complicate inscribed codes of sexual and social normativity, have never been shown together in the United States.”

A question that you may or may not feel inclined to answer? So! Let’s do it. I invite you to answer in the comments:

Somehow it is August! What are you most looking forward to in August?

  1. Somehow, this week was the most amazing week I browsed. The food looked amazing, the fellowship, everything. Thank you for sharing.

Well, August is a weird month: I’m moving out of my flat, and I’m packing for the Peace Corps, so I’m trying not to stress.

  2. Not got too much going on in August. A couple of birthday parties I’m looking forward to, and camping with friends in Pembrokeshire. Mostly I’m excited for going to Greece in September!
