MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: June 24–30, 2019!
Exhibition opening at work, providing electricity to Europe (in a board game), a farewell sake toast to a pottery friend, a sleepover with my mom, and a day at the beach grilling and soaking up the sun.
Enjoy!
Been struggling in pottery, referring to this phase as my regression. Always good to pause, and get back to the basics.
Pottery friend’s last throwing day, saaad. I’ve learned so much from him.
Been hung up on trying to get a non-cylinder shape but alas, in my quest to make new shapes for me I’ve compromised the basics and things have been lopsided.
Zach is out of town for a couple of weeks, so I decided to be ambitious and cook meatloaf for myself for the lunches for the week. But I decided to start after 9:30pm so it took…a while….
At the Villa tonight for the opening of Buried by Vesuvius. But we were a bit early (I had to shoot some installation things) and goofed around in the gardens for a while.
The Getty Villa garden best light in the afternoon
Incredible carbonized papyrus scroll! Scientists are working to digitally “unroll” the scrolls so they can be read, because they are EXTREMELY delicate 2,000 year old texts that were kept at the library in the Villa dei Papiri (original Villa that the Getty Villa was modeled on)
Recent pottery—as I said everything is a little wonky, not quite right. But I do find that the smaller bowls are really handy. I put salsa in them, snacks, ingredients while cooking, etc.
Gang is over for another game night. But this time, not a 6-hour game, something easier.
Power Grid, we are all competing power companies trying to supply Germany with power while making it with the least amount of resources.
We had an impromptu gathering at the pottery studio again for a goodbye sake cheers to one of our studio mates. He’s off to Asia for bigger better things—we drank from his own sake cups and then we each got to keep one.
On Friday my mom came to sleep over. I’m still on my own, and she thought it’d be fun to stay with me.
Also picked up my egg dish while I was at studio.
We did some errands together, then my mom took a nap haha
She was craving some soon tofu soup, so we went out to Sawtelle
Trying Seoul House of Tofu this time. We ordered way too much food, oopsies.
My dad came to pick up my mom, and we all went to eat at Mitsuwa food court first.
Doggos won’t let my mom leave.
A few hours later, post-pool party, Kiki and Ders and I decided to do some grilling for dinner.
Sunday morning, meeting up with family who are in town for some Chinese food.
Second year with James and Dan grilling at a fire pit at the beach.
Despite the heat, it is still freeezing in the water.
Dan bravely went all the way in
Back to the safety of the shade
More friends arrived and more grilling kicked off
Somebody else shooting off fireworks occasionally on the beach. A great day.
Thanks for reading!

A question that you may or may not feel inclined to answer? So! Let’s do it. I invite you to answer in the comments:
What summer activity feels essential to do for you to officially feel like summer is here? (For me? A beach grill day).

Much love friends.
Going to the lake is a big thing for summer here, or having a fun house party!
