MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: OCTOBER 15–21, 2018!
It’s go time. We move into our new place.
Enjoy!
Hello! It’s officially move out week. My final goodbyes to my sweet little apartment.
It’s been sunny but crisp in the morning. Truly perfect weather for me.
Took a lot of photos of the front of the place because I never really did before. Here it is in the foggy morning.
Decided that our food strategy for the week would be a huge order of delivery Indian food that we could eat for dinner every day.
Degrassi, we’ve officially made it to Season 3 and things are heating up.
Been bad about bringing my lunch, so cafe lunches have been a nice break from my sad desk lunches.
Tristan is back in the office! I’m not alone anymore…
Wednesday night, so happy to be puppy-sitting Uma for the evening. I had to stop by the new place where Zach was doing some stuff to pick her up.
Zach managed to make a bagged salad so we had some veggies and greens too.
She’s such a puppy and won’t sit still
Motivated by doggo to do a little bit more light packing.
It’s nuts because it’s like the stuff just never stopped appearing. I would empty out entire cabinets and drawers and think to myself, “Okay, I have most of the stuff packed” yet things kept showing up. Trinkets and books and paintings and artworks and cords…
After many weeks (and a few weeks thinking my little piece was broken and lost) my gecko food holder I made at pottery is ready for gecko use!
Zach jammed his finger at a basketball game, very useful when trying to move boxes.
All the pieces we collected from Goodwill are all officially off the wall. So weird. I took the mirrors down but found myself trying to use them or look into them.
Might look totally normal but truly 80% less things. Every day we would load up a bunch of boxes into the car and Zach would drive over during the day.
Thursday night we knew we had a big packing day ahead of us the next day, so we had some negronis and rented the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre
I had never seen the Texas Chainsaw Massacre before and boy oh boy it was a real treat.
Crispy bacon and cheesy eggs plus orange juice. Have to get nutrients before the last packing day.
Burning some candles that I didn’t want to bring with me, pleasant smells for packing.
Decided on some sock organizing because who needs so many socks (me) but to be honest I kept most of them
Sufi sleeping on the comforter while the cover was being washed. Was too cute to move him.
Last painting left on the wall, my beloved painting of the dogs by Gabby.
We packed up our cars with all the boxes with the intention to drop all that stuff at the new place but decided to do a quick pitstop at the pumpkin patch.
On the hunt for three pumpkins: one tiny, one medium round, and one tall slender ahah.
Found the tiny guy, named him Arnold
Come along pumpkins, come along.
Did the car unload as quickly as possible.
All the clothes in a pile (yes…too many clothes)
Evening drive back to the apartment
Last night in the apartment, so happy to have friends around me willing to splurge on Sugarfish sushi delivery so we could all just soak in the space and watch something together.
Zach, constantly wrangling cords
When the movers arrived it was such a whirlwind. Suddenly the living room was basically empty, then the bedroom was, then the workroom was…
*Smiling but sad* But really, not as sad as I thought I would feel with everything gone. My lil’ bro Alex said it well, “your apartment’s skeleton.” It didn’t seem like my space anymore, my stuff was gone, the people I love weren’t in it, the energy was different. It wasn’t mine anymore. It felt peaceful and I was ready to go.
Another car full of random stuff.
James so kindly asked if he could come over and help unpack…SO GRATEFUL he did because I was exhausted and unmotivated and he kept me going to just open boxes and pull stuff out.
Training Tweedy to use the door
Dinner out with friends, mixing up that spam fried rice
Sunday morning—SEEING the pups use the new window made me explode with joy. Things will be good here.
Sunday we decided to walk and catch some Pokemon on community day and just get outside and acknowledge that the most stressful part is done. *Whew* Time to breathe out and settle in. MOVING sucks. Really. We ended at Roberta’s pizza place and tried the cacio e pepe and the Lil’ Stinker. SO good.
Later in the day I just felt totally weak and exhausted. I couldn’t lift up my head and just needed to nap. So I did.
Must accept that things will be a mess for a while.
Got some matzo ball soup for a comforting dinner. Didn’t get a lot done but again, just telling myself that everything will get better day by day.
Thank you for reading!

Some questions that you may or may not feel inclined to answer? Let’s do it. I invite you to answer in the comments:
- What’s the weather like for you?
- What’s your favorite style of house? Like residential architecture (not sure if that’s the right term)?
- How do you like your eggs, if you eat them?

- What’s the weather like for you?
Currently 77 degrees Fahrenheit (and yes, I am wearing a scarf but it’s cold inside) - What’s your favorite style of house? Like residential architecture (not sure if that’s the right term)?
Los Angeles has these weird castle-inspired houses, just found this old piece on Curbed about fantasy and Los Angeles which may explain why there are little versions of castles with spires on some houses you see. - How do you like your eggs, if you eat them?
Over-easy

Much love friends.
So nice to see Roberta’s permanantely at PLATFORM! My SO works in their kitchen in Brooklyn. We’re planning a Los Angeles move in a few years so it should be an easy transition for him. 🙂

It was great! What else should I try from Roberta’s? I want to go back soon.
Good luck with your LA move! (Though a bit early to be wishing good luck considering you have a few years…)

Two words. Bee. Sting. BEST PIZZA. And being a cheese freak..I have to tell you to try the stracciatella. I think there may be a few differences between the LA and BK menus but if they have the bucatini carbonara and the spacatelli GO OFF girl. So good.

Your new place looks really nice! I love the architectural features. Is it a house? Also, I may be one of the few people who loves to move and haven’t done so in 6 years and I’m feeling super jealous of your new space. 🙂
What’s the weather like for you?
It’s 52 degrees in MN. It actually feels pretty good because it was a cold start to October. I have to say I get real confused about the temp when i see your pictures of people out and about in LA. A real wide range of layering with hats and scarves. Makes it hard for a MN gal like myself to determine if it is 50s or 70s.
What’s your favorite style of house? Like residential architecture (not sure if that’s the right term)?
I really like a ton of styles of homes. Tudor are fascinating to me. Modern all glass, appeals to my minimalist side. Craftman because of the beautiful woodwork.
How do you like your eggs, if you eat them?
Over-easy but I have to have toast. Can’t eat just eggs with no toast.

I am very change-averse but quick to adapt to a new setting and situation, so I was really dreading moving but now is the fun part that you mentioned: getting to decide where things go! I hope you can move soon! Sometimes online flat/apartment/house-hunting can be a fun way to pass the time…
In LA anything under 70 can be considered chilly *for me*…I am guilty of this because I love bundling up and wearing layers, and I run cold, so any chance for a sweater and scarf I take!

Congrats on finishing the hardest part of moving! We recently moved and kinda procrastinated on the packing, thinking we didn’t really have that much stuff. But like you said, random things just kept showing up! We were packing and cleaning till the last minute the property manager was gonna show up. IT WAS EXHAUSTING. So we went to a Chinese massage parlor and got an hour massage and it was SO GOOD, so worth it.
The new place looks great! I’m sure you’ll make great new memories there, too!

Thank youuuuu so much. Also congrats on your move. I don’t think there’s ever been a perfect, flawless, stress-free move in the history of the world. Just have to pat ourselves on the back and acknowledge that…we did it! Mission accomplished, no matter how bumpy the road…

Welcome home! I’m so used to moving that I can move quickly and I’m usually done unpacking in like, 3 hours. Good luck making your abode truly yours.
What’s the weather like for you?
– It’s currently 11C (52F) and drizzly. I am overjoyed with this weather.
What’s your favorite style of house? Like residential architecture (not sure if that’s the right term)?
– I’m obsessed with Scandinavian style houses, but not the sterile Ikea ones; more like the eclectic ones that still scream “Swedish home design”: https://www.thenordroom.com/blog/2018/10/16/a-light-scandinavian-home-with-multifunctional-attic-space
How do you like your eggs, if you eat them?
I like eggs in anyway possible, but my absolute favourite is soft-boiled, which instantly pings me as a European, doesn’t it?

What’s the weather like for you? I’m in AZ and its in the 75-80 finally and just perfect. Chllly mornings and evenings and sunny days.
What’s your favorite style of house? Like residential architecture (not sure if that’s the right term)? I love craftsman houses but Spanish colonial has more light to them.

Ahh yes, finally laptop access and a post to read after my trip! The pumpkin house!! Congrats on the new place! I hate moving too but I won’t have to until April and I’m dreading it. I’ve accumulated quite a bit of crap I probably don’t need or use. I do enjoy setting things up and finding a place for the items I love. What do you set up first?
What’s the weather like for you?
60 degrees and sunny…nice fall weather in Northern VA
What’s your favorite style of house? Like residential architecture (not sure if that’s the right term)?
I dream of a loft style space with exposed brick and industrial elements, which is uncommon for where I live
How do you like your eggs, if you eat them?
Over easy / soft boiled / cloud eggs!!!

An apartment skeleton – that’s the best way to put it! I also get very attached to where I live, but have surprised myself by not being nearly as sad once everything is packed up and the place is empty. Suddenly it’s not home anymore and it’s not really sad to leave!

Ahahahaha omg I know EXACTLY how you feel. I have recently moved to Sweden, from the UK (1.5 weeks ago!) and so we had to pack our stuff very carefully into boxes to be moved here by a company. Our flat was like a clown car– the ‘stuff’ never stopped coming. I never want to move again after that nightmare!
