MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: OCTOBER 22–28, 2018! CHILI COOK-OFF AND PUMPKIN CARVING!
We continue to slowly unpack and start settling in to our new place. Plus, Alex visits! We carve pumpkins, watch Friday the 13th, and dress up the dogs because why NOT.
Enjoy!
Hello, I have survived moving weekend and made it to work. Allergies have got the best of me, but I’m here to do survive.
Monday night, jumping at the chance of cooking at home. Zach is up, making some hot wings.
Munching on shishito peppers and not being helpful.
Finally, an oven that doesn’t burn everything too badly. Chicken turned out good!
I took the time to collect all my pieces that were ready to be sanded and glazed and finally went for it.
Had a chance to throw a few more things, including a large cylinder that I dropped and it collapsed oops.
Looking forward to seeing how these glazes come out.
Tuesday, the Getty up in a sun soaked cloud.
Tuesday—the chili cook off. A crucial event for my building at work. This year we’ve teamed up with the science department. Tristan and I were in charge of getting a little photo shoot area set up, and the scientists were in charge of perfecting the chili recipe.
Mole chili with a cashew cream on the side
We manned the line and passed out stickers for the chili tasters to come through and add to our interactive chili installation, loosely inspired by a Yayoi Kusama Obliteration room.
We went around to the other floors to check out their decorations and taste their chili. Unfortunately, we didn’t win! But everything was delicious.
Wednesday—I wore a scarf because I WILL SWEAR SCARVES even though it is definitely sunny I want it to feel like fall.
We have a pumpkin carving thing on the weekend, so we dropped to Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch on a weeknight (no $ entry fee) to pick up pumpkins.
Goat on chair. Alert, goat on chair.
Friends! I cooked up some pasta. We definitely aren’t fully unpacked but I want to take every chance to fill the place with good friend energy. It’s always more fun to cook for others.
Managed to unpack my clothes like 85%. Still need to sort out some bigger coats/sweaters and all my socks and scarves.
Actually took some time to have eggs and bacon for breakfast.
Getty blood drive day, and since it has been a year since my trip (holy shit, need to get through those photos which I swear I will now that I have moved) I could donate.
Had lunch after donating, but when walking up stairs near the cafe, I started to feel really dizzy and nauseous. People were passing by very concerned, and Tristan decided to just fake a little photoshoot so I could sit on the stairs and not be bothered by concerned folks. Little by little I scooted up the steps. Shoutout, Tristy. Saved me from more embarrassment!
Back to Sake Dojo to shoot more food and try the omakase!
Love a mid-week journey to Little Tokyo. Always tempted by this Snorlax.
Friday! Alone at the office today, wore my lucky cat socks.
Yay! Friday night. Successfully made it through the week. My favorite ramen from Shin Sen Gumi.
Not sure I’d want a bag for fragile or valuable items that is so thin but I appreciate the thought.
Thought this was a watermelon but apparently it is a fake wound for Halloween.
Got drawer organizers from Daiso, and finally unpacked the bathroom.
Kitchen shining and clean kind of.
Decided to get my little chia pet ball going. Have to soak the pouch for 5 hours.
I also set up a little herb garden that my mom gave me a looong while back.
We spent the afternoon unpacking a bit more, especially the garage area. Picked up some Vietnamese cold noodles for lunch.
They won’t even lift a finger and they are exhausted.
Though I shouldn’t blame them because mid-unpacking I felt really tired and fell asleep on the garage floor. I blame the blood donation……
Spent a ~hot~ Friday night at Home Depot looking at some storage ideas for the garage.
5 hours later…he’s ready to grow.
This October is the most scary movies I’ve ever seen. Happy to be watching the classic ones, but I’m definitely a chicken and never would really pick a scary movie. This is Friday the 13th. Glad I never saw this when I worked at a summer camp.
And a few hours later on Saturday night, my bundle of joy arrived. Alex is here!
Went to eat some OB Bear, korean fried chicken and a jalapeno and sesame leaf pancake. Yesssss.
Sunday morning. Alex and I decided to work on a scone kit that I had purchased a while back.
Waiting for them to cook. (Spoiler alert: they were really really awful. I definitely over kneaded the dough. So bad.)
Plus Alex helped me unpack a few boxes in the work space.
Picked up Kiki and Ders and headed to Hollywood. We decided on Umami Burger for lunch. A+ fries for real. Decent burger. We went to see Susperia afterwards. Weird movie, but I’ll take weird over boring any day.
MY FAVORITE time of the year, torturing the dogs in costume. This year? Mummies. I wish they made white ace bandage, would have been more effective I think. But still…very hilarious.
They look a little like they were cast in a World War I movie and are injured soldiers.
I unwrapped the dogs and then we headed out with our pumpkins to a carving party.
Ambitious carvers, including Archie as a Lobster
Should have carved a watermelon
We worked on the pumpkins as our kind host worked away in the kitchen.
CARVED STUFFED BELL PEPPERS SO CUTE
Thank you for reading.

Some questions that you may or may not feel inclined to answer? I borrowed these from livejournal on a community page for Xanga surveys, meta! Let’s do it. I invite you to answer in the comments:
- What is the closest you have ever been to a major historical event?
- What bizarre celebrity encounters have you had?
- What are some meals that are simple to make, but easy to impress people with?

- What is the closest you have ever been to a major historical event?
I camped out in 2011 at the Kate and William royal wedding in front of Buckingham Palace. Saw the first kiss and cars driving by and everything. I don’t think that counts as major, but it’s the first thing that came to mind. - What bizarre celebrity encounters have you had?
I live in Los Angeles and occasionally I’m asked this question—and I don’t know! - What are some meals that are simple to make, but easy to impress people with?
Shabu! Or any kind of grill, it’s just a fun thing to do together and it’s pretty easy to prep.

Much love friends.
Man, your flat is looking amazing, and it’s always good to fill a house with laughter and good vibes. Also, I always love your jumpers and scarves.
What is the closest you have ever been to a major historical event?
– I was in Lebanon in 2006 visiting family when a pretty serious war happened between Hezbollah and Israel. Kind of sucks.
What bizarre celebrity encounters have you had?
– I played poker with Tom Hardy.
What are some meals that are simple to make, but easy to impress people with?
– Anything with scallops; my go-to is seared scallops and grilled asparagus.

I absolutely love your new place. The kitchen is so quirky, I just love it. Especially that kitchen table. Total retro diner vibes.
What is the closest you have ever been to a major historical event?
– In June of 2014 there was a major shooting in my little Canadian town. It made world headlines because something like this hadn’t happened in my province before. The shooting was very close to my neighbourhood and I was locked in my house for 36 hours. My boyfriend and I were not allowed to leave due to police orders.
What bizarre celebrity encounters have you had?
I haven’t really had any bizarre celebrity encounters.
What are some meals that are simple to make, but easy to impress people with?

I’m English and therefore navigating my way through Brexit haha. I have left the country because of it.
What bizarre celebrity encounters have you had?
I met Steve Aoiki in Copenhagen airport. I told my bf that i had spotted Steve (at Heathrow) and he tried to take a sneaky picture. Unbeknownst to him, Steve’s bodyguard saw us. He was nice, though, and said we could ask Steve for a picture once we landed in Copenhagen. We didn’t because we were too shy, but Steve’s bodyguard noticed us and asked Steve if he would take a picture with us. He did! I was entirely awkward and British about the whole thing.
