MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: OCTOBER 8–14, 2018! (UNPACKING BOOKS AND PICKING UP A DINING TABLE)

Rain in Los Angeles, packing up my clothes, a Craiglist journey across town, and an art opening in Little Tokyo.

Enjoy!

Untitled
I have a solo week ahead of me. Just me and the pups.

The days are getting shorter, magic hour around leaving time.

I was bad at keeping track of my pieces and finally did a thorough look through things I needed to glaze and the things I needed to sand and glaze. Oops, had 8 things to glaze and had 5 things to trim.

Untitled
Untitled
Tuesday! Still not used to my bright ass running shoes. Not sure when I’ll stop saying that but sometimes I’ll glance down and be surprised by my own feet.

Little jog down the creek.

Untitled

Last week I was at the Halloween store and I saw these ‘Peepers’ and thought WHY did they make these? Who would buy this!??! And saw this in my neighborhood…hahah.

Out and about in the galleries today.

Untitled
Still working out my skin, but trying to be patient with it.

Kiki earning a square on the bingo card of friendship by helping me with a Craigslist pick up

Untitled
Extendable table! I purchased it. It barely fit into Kiki’s car…but we got it to work with the legs off.

Untitled
Untitled
Thanking Kiki with some Korean spicy tofu soup (and seeing Marie!)

Untitled
Everybody find yourself a Kiki, she even put the legs back on for me.

Untitled
These chairs were in storage back in Texas, so we happily took them. So relieved to see the color of the table matches pretty well with chairs.

Untitled
Good morning! I’m exhausted!

Untitled
I scared myself catching a glimpse of my shiny face in the mirror. Tea tree mask!

Untitled
Everything is a mess, but Tweedy was still a bit wet when I left him before work the day before, so I had to make a barrier so he couldn’t jump on the couch.

Untitled
Spent the night in catching up on some laundry and other chores.

Untitled
Watermelon kombucha, why not.

Untitled
Untitled
Untitled
Bundled up. It was a little much to bring a scarf to work, but I’m just so eager for the colder weather.

Untitled
Untitled
A little belated, but Kiki’s birthday gift finally arrived! She tweeted on August 20 that she wanted a “pee is stored in the balls” unknown pleasure design but tote and I worked to find a random website that would print it. I’m so happy it is finally here. Joke complete.

Together again! Kiki photographing the moon.

Untitled
Archie and Kiki having a moment at Taco night. We all watched Jigsaw aka Saw #8. I must admit I fell asleep a little (JUST A LITTLE) but that’s normal for me.

Untitled
Untitled
After work on Friday I stopped at the Japanese market to buy myself dinner and I saw these super cute Hello Kitty wines. I want (but I didn’t get)!

Untitled
Untitled
Untitled
The clouds were doing all kinds of beautiful things.

Untitled
Got my food and some snacks too.

Untitled
Untitled
Too hungry, I had to eat this in the car on the drive home.

Untitled
JUST WHEN I THOUGHT THE SKY COULDN’T GET BETTER

Untitled
Untitled
*Tears in eyes* So beautiful! So grateful to have stopped and seen this sunset. I stood there for a while, just soaking it in. So lovely.

They always have to sit perched on top of pillows, never on the couch itself.

Untitled
All of a sudden there was a bunch of flashing outside and I was so confused. Then I realized…DUH it’s lightning. I just didn’t expect rain at all so it was a very welcome surprise. I was planning on staying in but it was so much better with the rain.

Untitled
Saturday morning, still a bit damp and rainy.

Untitled
The first sign of water, I’m pulling out all my layers. Definitely over layered but so happy to be bundled.

Untitled
Untitled
On my way over to the new place to meet my parents. They are helping me with some things around the space and I’m planning on unpacking a little and flattening boxes.

Untitled
Untitled
The items we bought from the antique store in Texas (Uncommon Objects) made it in one piece! So happy.

Lining shelves

Untitled
Untitled
My mom had surgery on her hand the day before. It’s been a real journey, but she’s happy to finally be recovering. She’s getting good at using her left hand.

Untitled
My neighbor back in South Pasadena is selling her place, and she kindly gifted us a bunch of furniture including a bookshelf. My dad is helping me strategically put it up and stabilize it.

Untitled
Untitled
Untitled
Lunch! I had lamb gyro on rice with a side of hummus and pita bread. My parents shared some falafel.

Untitled
Untitled
Dad helping put the table back together.

Untitled
Meanwhile I worked on unpacking our hundreds of books.

Untitled
A few hours later…

Untitled
I can’t believe we’ll live here soon…it’s so much more space. Feeling so lucky, so adult, but also like OMG I AM NOT WORTHY.

So this is where the bed will go, I was thinking of doing a fun wallpaper or something on the wall. Very official renderings here.

Sunday morning, my long run day.

This park has been redoing the ramps for months now. So eager to see the finished product.

Untitled
At the top was this MEGA ramp. Holy shit, this thing looks like a roller coaster. Can this be safe?!!?

Untitled
Untitled
Loving all the puddles and the cloudy skies. The best weather to run in!

Second bath of the week.

Decided to start packing and decluttered my overstuffed closet.

Untitled
He’s clean it’s so fun to cuddle him. Can’t stop.

Untitled
Some good progress was made.

Untitled
Dressed to finally socialize. Zach and Tristan have both been gone for over a week, I’ve been a little stir crazy I think. Partially because I do love being alone, but also because the people I talk to most haven’t been conveniently nearby.

Came out to this opening at 341 FSN, a gallery in Little Tokyo. This show Seeds of Our Grandmother’s Dreams “re-imagines a world blossoming with the unbroken yume our Nikkei elders carried across the Pacific: before they were forced into American concentration camps.”

After the opening we snuck over to Sake Dojo and I finally got to try the Kyoto Old Fashion which has coffee in it! Soooooo good.

Some questions that you may or may not feel inclined to answer? I borrowed these from livejournal on a community page for Xanga surveys, meta! Let’s do it. I invite you to answer in the comments:

  1. Are you moving soon?
  2. If you could move anywhere without any constraints, where would you move?
  3. What is your favorite place to sit in your home? Why?

__

  1. Are you moving soon?
Yep! Moving truck comes on Saturday.
  2. If you could move anywhere without any constraints, where would you move?
A part of me would love to move to Japan, learn Japanese, maybe stay out somewhere more rural…
  3. What is your favorite place to sit in your home? Why?
My work room, at my work table. I love the feeling in there, gets me energized to be productive. I’ve collected fun things from travels, from friends…it’s just…good feeling in there.

Much love friends!

  1. I like the way you compose your photos and the vibes I get when viewing..
Even mundane things are made interesting.

Sorry I feel like a fangirl or something. I used to be a creepy lurker and it’s strange to comment b/c I’m shy.

The gold sushi and shots of the roads/environment are my favorites.

  2. THAT BOOKCASE. OMG. WOW.

Good luck with the move this weekend! So excited for you and your new place – it looks amazing. You deserve it!

  3. That exhibition looks wonderful – I wish I could go.

Your new apartment looks so lovely! I like the red upholstered seating in the kitchen, and the chairs you got from Texas are lovely.

    1. No! Though I think we will in a couple of years. I would be nice to have somewhere with a bit more space… or I should just get rid of more stuff.
    2. Hmmm. I really enjoyed the brief time I lived in Paris, and one of my best friends lives there now. You make living in LA look pretty cool too!
    3. I don’t do it as often as I should, but I really like sitting on the floor of the balcony with the cat. It’s only small, but it’s basically a floor-to-ceiling window, because it’s completely glassed in, with a sliding wooden panel that opens a bit of it to the air. It’s fun to sit out there and watch the cars and people go by, and watching Laika try to catch flies on the other side of the glass. It was nicer when there were lots of plants and flowers out there, but then the heatwave came and that and the a/c unit we had to buy fried them all.

Now I have a question for you: have you shelved your books according to a particular system, or were you eager to get them unpacked and put away/not fussed about alphabetising or separating according to genre etc?

    1. Hiiii, omg so delayed but to answer your question about the bookshelf: it was vaguely organized by non-fiction/true crime/fiction/reference book/children’s books and then some had to be on the bottom shelf for size-reasons. I think it needs a bit more organization…

  4. I cannot wait to see your new flat. Dyyyyying! And I follow you on Instagram, so I get excited to see how the rest of your week stacks up.

    Are you moving soon?
    – Not until September of next year–it’s a mystery where, though, which is scary/exciting.

If you could move anywhere without any constraints, where would you move?
    – Iceland. I already have plans to go…

What is your favorite place to sit in your home? Why?
    – On the balcony. It’s so peaceful and nice on nice days, but if it’s not nice, I enjoy sitting on the recliner and listening to podcasts and the rain.

  5. Your new place looks so nice!

    Are you moving soon?
    – No and I wish I was. I moved so much in my 20s and now I’ve been in my house for 6 years and am super stir crazy for a new place. I love the act of setting up a new house and deciding where things should go.

If you could move anywhere without any constraints, where would you move?
    – I’d love to live in a super walkable city. I went to Montreal this year and that was really cool or probably any city in Europe.

What is your favorite place to sit in your home? Why?
    – This is my favorite and also least favorite and basically the only place I sit. My couch. It’s super comfy and relaxing but it leads to a significant loss of motivation to do anything so once I’m sitting (more like laying) it feels impossible to move again.

  6. oh my god, the levels to which I can relate to your ‘everything is a mess’ comment. We’re moving to Sweden in two weeks and I just can’t function in the mess that is my life, our worldly belongings and our current flat right now!
