MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: AUGUST 27–SEPTEMBER 2, 2018! (626 NIGHT MARKET, CINESPIA SCREENING, AND HIKING IN LA)

Eating a lot of noodles this week, plus a visit to the 626 Night Market in Arcadia for the last weekend to try all the foods. The weekends ends with a cemetery screening of “Now and Then” (I cry).

Enjoy!

Grandma Waldo, here to say good morning and happy Monday.

Fritos, cheese, and chili. Yummy.

Pre-pottery studio I had to do a double take to see a bunny just chilling in the yard in front of somebody’s house. What’s up, bunny. If I wasn’t allergic I would have tried to pet it.

New pieces fresh from the kiln. The glaze didn’t work out as I pictured…but I don’t hate them! The piece on the right is the biggest piece I’ve made so far, but three pounds of clay doesn’t look that big after being fired.

Visit to Marukai after work. Hard to resist all the cute little keychains hanging by the register on the way out…

Here to purchase some meats for grilling, but also some basics and snacks.

My sad brain saw the tree graffiti and thought it said “Sims” (CERTAINLY does not). I love the Sims too much…

Got this at H Mart last weekend with my mom, wanted to try it out as soon as possible because it was refrigerated. My first time trying this kind of chewy noodles, and I liked the texture but this one was SUPER spicy. Hard to finish! But good flavor.

Had to be at work a bit early to shoot an installation and paintings moving in the galleries for a blog post up next week. Was nice to get there early, got to leave a bit early and there was nice light out when I finished the shoot.

It was happy hour so we went kind of crazy: mini corndogs, grilled artichoke, cheese and meats, meatballs, and blackberry cocktails.

Congrats to Tristy! He set a goal for himself to run 100 miles in August…and he did it!

Made an effort, tried to feel cute. Right on.

Went over to Tristan’s for a cheeseboard and some pizza before heading downtown for a friend’s birthday. For pre-gaming we decided on Babysitter’s Club…how have I never seen this? Claudia is my new style icon.

Cheeks are irritated, I think a combination of washing my dogs and hiking is giving my eczema some fuel.

Here to see Now and Then, the 1995 film about four best friends spending the summer together in their small town in the 70s. I used to love this film so much as a young teen, it was so fun to watch it again now with hundreds of other people who really loved this film too.

Hope you’re having a great week!

And now, inspired by the early Internet days of anonymous survey lists and questions, I bring you some questions. These are from glacier-kitty on LJ, a fun list that gives you a question a day for a year. Answer in the comments if you’d like!

  1. August 27 – How do you reward yourself?
  2. August 28 – Do you prefer dogs or cats?
  3. August 29 – Tell us a cool fact about yourself.
  4. August 30 – What’s your favorite article of clothing that you own?
  5. August 31 – Best moment of the month
  6. September 1 – Thing you are most looking forward to this month?
  7. September 2 – Do you exercise? If so, what do you do?

  1. August 27 – How do you reward yourself?
Laptop time, for example, playing the Sims 4 for hours without guilt. Sometimes when I’m really busy, I feel like I should be using all my time on my computer editing photos, posting, or doing freelance design or photo work…so some guilt-free Sims time is a treat.
  2. August 28 – Do you prefer dogs or cats?
Both! But I live with two dogs currently.
  3. August 29 – Tell us a cool fact about yourself.
Both of my parents are twins.
  4. August 30 – What’s your favorite article of clothing that you own?
My collection of hand knit scarves that my mom made for me. Or a beanie that Zeen brought back for me from his trip to Ireland. It’s so fuzzy.
  5. August 31 – Best moment of the month
A highlight for my August was going to San Francisco for Outsidelands. I feel so lucky that we’ve been able to keep up this early tradition of taking some time at the end of summer to spend time in the Bay with Lauren and friends, and of course the music and food are the best bonus. In case you’re curious, here are the weekly posts from this past month:

    1. July 30–August 5: A week revolving around food—cooking and grilling at home and shooting the first recipes for a recent cookbook collaboration project.
    2. August 6–12: Edible artwork at the office, my first pottery injury, and a weekend at Outsidelands Music Festival. Be warned, lots of food photos.
    3. August 13–19: I return from San Francisco and jump right into the week that starts with reuniting with friends over ramen, continues to a few days visiting old haunts in San Clemente and Dana Point, and ends comforting my mama with tacos after she had a hard fall.
    4. August 20–26: Thai food, short film screening at Echo Park Film Center, supporting “An Emmy for Megan,” smoothies with sea lions, and a day at Disneyland trying all the new Pixar foods.
  6. September 1 – Thing you are most looking forward to this month?
Gabby and Kiki both have birthdays this month. Love to celebrate my friends (even though they are both birthday celebration-averse).
  7. September 2 – Do you exercise? If so, what do you do?
I run mostly. Sometimes do the elliptical in the gym if I am tired of running. Occasionally I shoot around on the basketball court.

Much love friends.

  1. So I think you really have taken the best of California and showed it to us. You are a great ambassador for your city. The film in the cemetery thing freaks me out a bit though, because I can’t sit, walk or stand on the area in front of the tombstone, where the old bodies would be. Is that weird?

August 27 – How do you reward yourself?
    – Usually by watching Youtube videos.

August 28 – Do you prefer dogs or cats?
    – I’m a dog person, most definitely.

August 29 – Tell us a cool fact about yourself.
    – I am the only child of an only child.

August 30 – What’s your favorite article of clothing that you own?
    – I have this black dress from the GAP which I absolutely adore.

August 31 – Best moment of the month
    – ???? none. August is a hard month for me.

September 1 – Thing you are most looking forward to this month?
    – Well, Labor Day, and that’s gone.

September 2 – Do you exercise? If so, what do you do?
    – I do! I do squats, crunches, lunges, etc. It is too hot to go outside and I am too cheap for a gym so I do everything at home.

    1. Ah! That’s so nice to hear. And re: the cemetery, the field where the screenings happen don’t have graves! There are certainly graves around, but the viewers aren’t sitting on them!
