MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: AUGUST 13–19, 2018! (RAMEN, ORANGE COUNTY BEACHES, AND MOM’S VULCAN SALUTE)
I return from San Francisco and jump right into the week that starts with reuniting with friends over ramen, continues to a few days visiting old haunts in San Clemente and Dana Point, and ends comforting my mama with tacos after she had a hard fall.
Enjoy!
Early morning at the San Francisco airport—we normally head out like 6 or 7 am but we booked a slightly later flight which felt like a real luxury after a weekend at the music festival.
Finished Mindhunter finally! This book was originally published in 1995 but was re-released after Mindhunter the Netflix series came out based on the book. I really enjoyed the book, it’s about the formation of the FBI behavior analysis unit, you know…what they do in Criminal Minds, profiling, etc.
The flight isn’t very long, the perfect time for a coffee and a rest.
Made it back home–quickly changed and headed out to the office.
Had to change into my pottery clothes (which need a good washing) when I was still at the office. Thankfully nobody saw me sneak out to my car covered in dirt.

Home after 9pm and Zach was cooking up some ramen. (Shoutout to my dirty stove)
Highly recommend combining these two noodles.
New babies. Will have to take more photos in the light.
Sadly this one had a crack that goes through to the bottom, so it’ll have to be for solid foods.
For Marie, who wanted something to burn incense on.
Zach sweaty from salmon cooking.
I’m still never confident roasting salmon but Zach is the pro of the household thankfully.
Meeting friends at Shin Sen Gumi
I was first and put our name in.
They all strutted toward me at once, an overwhelming wave of happiness.
Preparing our order from outside
Tristy has been out this week with some health struggles so I’m happy he’s back and in full Oddish mode.
Thursday night, ready to drive in an hour and a half in traffic to Orange County.
We were heading down to meet Zach’s family who were in town for vacation from out of state. But first…to one of Zach’s favorite places in that area.
There are enchiladas in there hidden in all that cheesy saucy goodness.
Picking up something for the house
Morning in San Clemente! Proudly brought my pug tote bag (thank you, Lena)
Burgers and fries and onion fingers for breakfast, what’s not to love?
We had a big beach day, six hours relaxing on the beach and swimming in the water. It was red flag day, big waves and bad currents…we had some close calls.
It was a beautiful lovely day, I like seeing families out on the beach. More energizing to have other people having fun there too.
Zach’s family is on the ball with beach gear, always impressive.
After resting and showering at the house we decided to walk and get some dinner.
We shared some intense rolls, nigiri, and soft shell crab mm.
Baskin Robbins, an old classic. I got a scoop of rainbow sherbet which I haven’t tasted for…years. Pretty satisfying.
The next day his family headed to the airport, and Zach wanted to see where his family used to come and once had a house.
The beach has been eroding and washing away, kind of sad to see the beach we used to come (and Zach has come since he was a little kid)
The water has started breaking off pieces of the parking lot
It was a tradition to look for sea glass on this beach since there were piles of rocks on the shore. Zach found a piece! Hard to look for glass now that the beach is mostly lost to the ocean.
Little crabs at the Dana Point harbor area.
Dog on a boat! Alert alert! Dog on a boat!
I was shocked when this one was so close!
I think that guy was pretty shocked as well! It just leapt out of the water right on front of him, I thought he might get knocked off the board.
Had an hour to kill so we stopped by Left Coast Brewing to try a flight.
Loooong drive back to the LA area.
Picked up some food to bring over to my parents.
(Sorry, semi-graphic? Just a little gross) My poor mama fell while on a morning walk and thought she broke her hand. Turns out it isn’t broken, but very bruised and swollen! Send her some healing vibes.
Fish tacos that Tubby couldn’t get enough of
Some family photos my mom found in my great uncle’s stuff. The older woman is my mom’s great grandmother.
On the right is my mom’s grandpa and the other two are his brothers.
My mom got into my shoes which I thought was the cutest. Rocking my sandals.
My dad bringing out Tubby to say goodbye
Another cookbook shoot for amwa! So excited, the cookbook should be out in the winter this year.
Spent the afternoon returning some items at the mall, and then Zach and I went to KazuNori. We tried the special uni hand roll, I wish I could eat it again.
Who doesn’t love this week ending on a blurry dark photo of me in a lush face mask attempting to relax before the next week starts.

Ready for some invasive, random questions? (Inspired by the nostalgia of Livejournal surveys, I borrowed these questions from anghara on Livejournal from 2011). Answer if you’d like:
- Without looking at your watch: what time is it?
- Look at your watch. What time is it?
- Would you like to live in a castle?
- Do you remember your dreams?
- What was your last dream?

- Without looking at your watch: what time is it?
11? I scheduled this to go up at 8am, but then realized I forgot questions so taking a small break to update this. - Look at your watch. What time is it?
11:09 - Would you like to live in a castle?
Seems like a lot of responsibility. I also am a little afraid of the idea that you could be in one room of your castle and you can’t hear what’s going on in the rest of the rooms…that would give me anxiety. - Do you remember your dreams?
Not usually. In high school I used to keep a dream journal, I think it was helpful in terms of having more frequent dreams. - What was your last dream?
I actually wrote it down because it was so vivid. These are my morning scribbles from July 14: “My dad was flying me and my mom in a small plane over the ocean. It was a bit scary but seemed normal for vacationers to do this, as there was a line of small planes to follow and go with the flow of traffic in the sky above the ocean. Dad makes a turn and lands us in a 10 feet by 10 feet yellow lilypad with the texture of a sea cucumber. These yellow lilypads look like sunstones or bursts of yellow stars in various sizes. Later in the dream, I’m kidnapped and see a few people I know IRL including my boss. I’m so scared to go into the water, I hate water. But I have to do it because a gun is pointed at me. A skirmish happens and we fall because the lilypad acts like a parachute floating on water, be careful. Underneath is a spiked surface that felt like the surface of a durian. The water was murky it felt like something was going to go wrong.

Thank you for reading! Much love friends.
Hope your mum heals up quickly! I would love to just hang out with harbor seals. I so miss the sea.
Without looking at your watch: what time is it?
– Not yet seven.
Look at your watch. What time is it?
– 1850; so ten to seven! I was very close.
Would you like to live in a castle?
– I would love to live in a French chateau; apparently they’re for sale all over the country.
Do you remember your dreams?
– Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t.
What was your last dream?
– Well, my current dreams are all about work. Nothing interesting.
