MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: JUNE 5–11, 2017!
Work, Wonder Woman, sicky Sufi, and two full days of theme parks—one at Knott’s Berry Farm and one at Disneyland and California Adventure. The new Guardians of the Galaxy, riding old favs before the summer blackout, and catching a Squirtle.
Enjoy!
Worked from home in the morning to head to the other Getty site in the morning—was nice to work in bed with a smoothie in the only cup I ever want to have a smoothie from.
Put my morning at home to good use, cutting that melon
Leftover fried chicken, a perfect lunch to eat while standing up running a bit late.
Heading off to film for a few hours
On set in the super secret gallery
As I was packing up heading back home I came across the most amazing wall of jasmine
Couldn’t resist pulling over and just having a second to myself on the coast
Car keys in the shoe for a solo trip to the stairs
Never gone in the evening and it’s quite atmospheric and as busy as ever.
Attempted salmon and roasted brussels
Wasn’t my night. Was almost in tears and didn’t think I could cry over a failed meal. It all tasted okay, just not very pretty. Sigh.
Following a YouTube workout, too embarrassed to do it in the rest of the gym
Been having cloudy days and I’m not even sad—when the summer heat comes…it’s going to be noo fun.
And also fortunately I’ve been graced with an eczema flare on my face!
I returned the ones that were too big and got ones that fit!
New jeans and new shoes! Treating myself.
Brought board games and korean cuttlefish chips to a coworkers new place.
Tacos and Catan, what else could you want
Got home and poor Sufi was yelping and crying and was having a hard time walking.
You could just tell that his back was hurting him, he wasn’t well
I pet him and cuddled him and tried to comfort him till he fell asleep. Poor Sufi.
Decided I’d walk to meet Kiki, and thought it’d take like 30 mins but it took longer…
First place? Happy hour area was totally packed.
Second place also was packed, so we ended up here.
Not bad, good margs and jerk chicken tacos and mussels oh yeah
Went to see Wonderwoman, see what all the hype was about. And I must say…(sorry to be a debby downer), I wasn’t really a fan. But I’m also not a huge superhero fan. I just think it was a lil’ silly in the plot department (as many superhero movies are) and all the hype about it being a “feminist” superhero just made me sad when I saw it and the entire film was basically a woman through the lens of manhood/being a man/being pleasing for men. Like too many penis jokes/”oh this is what men are like” jokes my god. But did like that she was a curator or something at the Louvre…how did she get that job hook it up.
Doggos. Sufi feeling better! Jumping up and down on the couch and sitting more straight.
Tristan said I was dressed like a dancer so we made it happen
Friday morning. Sunrise. I was off work and our Disneyland passes are about to black out for the summer so we wanted to arrive early and ride Guardians of the Galaxy and then meet Zach’s cousins who just moved to OC for dinner…
Wrinkly weird shirt that is kinda see-through but hey kinda into it.
Our plan was foiled when we got to Disneyland parking and they told us “oh you are blacked out today…” OOPS we didn’t bother checking a Friday since that’s normally okay. Our bad.
So we regrouped and found a place to have breakfast.
Went to play some bball at a nearby park. I found that we could buy tickets to Knott’s Berry Farm for $45 online…so I went for it.
Finally arrived a little before 10am
One of my favorite rides ever—still holds up. It’s the best.
The most humiliating position to ride a rollercoaster ah.
Knott’s arcade…really wanted a sriracha bottle plushie. Didn’t work out for us, we only wanted to drop $5 each haha
Wooo—on the Knott’s version of Buzz Lightyear
In classic Zeen fashion, we played another game and he beat out a child to win this Squirtle
Knott’s doesn’t really have places to put your stuff…so we got to ride with Squirtle
MY FAVORITE PEANUTS MOVIE HAD A LITTLE DISPLAY!!!!! AND PLUSHIES ASSOCIATED omg was so hard to NOT buy all of them.
Who is your fav Peanuts character?
It’s close…I think I’m more Marcie though
Absorbed a few more rides and attractions, and then headed to meet Zach’s cousins
A little early so we had some cocktails. Mine had shiso in it…so good.
He’s feeling better! SO relieved.
Accidental happy face sandwich
LOOK who is back from her amazing film production opportunity in Ohio. YAY!
Spent like 30 minutes with me and then she was over me hahahah.
Going away party for Rob!!! He’ll be in New Zealand for a while.
The next morning was a bit rainy. We thought…okay, we fucked up on Friday and we wanted to ride the new Guardians of the Galaxy before summer blocks out our passes…we’ll arrive early again.
We were only going to stay to ride the ride…and maybe a few other things.
But an hour and a half after the park opened…we got our fastpasses (after waiting in a 20 minute line to even GET the fast passes) for 8:10 PM!!!!
So we had an accidentally all day Disney day. Which was nice—our last day for a few months so we just leaned into it.
Couldn’t resist trying the “mangonada” which is like chamomango…chamoy and mango sorbet with tajin and chunks of mango mmmm.
Then we headed over to Disneyland
World famous JUNGLE CRUIIIIISE
Really want to see an elephant in person ahh
Zach got everybody hooked on this phone game called “Ballz” and he worked over the course of a few days on this high score…omg
Autopia! But they changed it…now it’s got weird Honda sponsored crap all over it and the charming car puns are all gone. RIP Car Park
The park was getting crowded so we went to do some smaller attractions.
AW cute miniatures telling stories from Disney and fairytales
Ducks floating around the water and on the land
Headed back over to California Adventure since Disneyland had a bunch of rides go down for a few hours…and we passed this random Annual Pass holder line, got in it, and got another set of free fast passes for Guardians of the Galaxy!
Always have to get my dill pickle popcorn
Passed the Pixar parade on the way to Goofy’s Flight School
Went back to Disneyland as rides started reopening and our fast passes that we collected throughout the day started kicking in.
I was waiting near the entrance of Tomorrowland and an older man in park uniform came up to me and just started chatting about artichoke plants and all the edible plants in Tomorrowland. Turned out that he was 90 years old…and he worked on the Matterhorn’s construction! He met Walt Disney every week during the park’s construction. It was a surprising interaction, so nice. And then as he walked away he turned back and pulled this tangerine out of his pocket and gave it to me haha. George!
Space Mountain has returned! (No longer is it Hyperspace Star Wars themed)
Thunder Mountain, one of my all time favs
It was time for our Guardians fast pass!
This ride caused such a fuss because they closed Tower of Terror, the Twilight Zone themed ride and people were so sad (I was too!)
It wasn’t closed too long, but they used the same building and ride concept (dropping, falling and shooting up) but reskinned it to be Guardians of the Galaxy
Now the main entrance is the Collector’s space
Details on the walls! If you want to compare to before, I did a documented day on our last time riding Tower of Terror. You can read Part 1 here and Park 2 here (sorry if the links in the post lead to LJ, I still have some things to fix on this blog)
OMG! Easter egg! The original yeti from Matterhorn in the collector’s basement ahhhh so cool.
Got right back in line for our second fast pass after
I know a lot of Disney fans were NOT excited about Tower of Terror going away…but…guys…Guardians of the Galaxy is really, really fun. I prefer the drops and bouncy style over Tower of Terror in fact. But maybe it’s just because it’s new and we had to wait like an hour in the fast pass line…haha….but I LIKED IT!
Back to Disneyland to use our last few fastpasses
Caught the end of the Main Street Electric Parade aw.
Too much fun on the weekend—had such a blast but felt like I’M NOT WORTHY. I’M TOO LAZY. I NEED TO DO MORE WORK. But also…what a nice escape before a busy summer.
Much love friends.
I haven’t even finished the post yet but YES I AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT WONDER WOMAN. I was seriously disappointed with it and I’m disappointed with the fact that so many people seem to think this is some great feminist piece of art. Gal Godot is beautiful but I’m so sick and tired of a woman’s worth being so rooted in her beauty and I feel like the film did way too much of that. Grated, she was strong and powerful, etc. But Hello. Male Gaze 101 all over that film.

Haha! I appreciate the passion that you had to stop mid-post to comment this. I agree, 100%.
I will say that her lasso was cool, and if I could watch warriors flip off horses and shoot dudes in slow-mo for a few hours I’d be happy.

I was kinda disappointed with Wonder Woman as well! Maybe my expectations were too high because of all the great feedback I heard beforehand but there were just so many sexist jokes that weren’t even close to being funny. On a different note, love the Squirtle you guys won!

I think I would have felt the same about it as I do with most superhero movies…a fun few hours, but nothing more (if I hadn’t heard all the hype beforehand).
Squirtle squirtle 🙂

I enjoyed the first half of Wonder Woman (I am a fan of superhero movies though, and the battle in Veld was pretty epic) – the second half, it kind of went off the rails for me. I agree there are problematic things about the movie, but I think the female representation in it is at least a start. I’ve heard anecdotes about little girls being super jazzed while watching the movie, which is pretty cute. The lasso of truth looked kind of like someone going crazy with a light pen. 😛
Fun post, as always! Glad Sufi is feeling better, poor pupper.

The fights were cool, for sure! Except for the last fight against the old man in the armor, felt a TAD silly to me! Yeah, I totally see where people are coming from that love and support the film!
Thanks for reading and commenting! 🙂
