My Week in Photos: July 14 – 20
Family, tacos, comedy, downtown LA…and crochet? I was surprisingly outdoorsy and indoorsy all at the same time.
And it's Obon season! Little cousins in kimonos? Yeah…read more. 🙂 Enjoy!
So I think I messed up and left a chunk of images off from Sunday evening of last week…we'll just pretend like that didn't happen and we'll start off with this adorable photo of Snow!
In Venice for an open mic night at a place I've been to for trivia before. But first! Tacos. And my favorite…wall murals! So many!
The taco place also had a bunch of those machines where you drop in a quarter and you get a fun thing. I got a tiny coffee.
At a pub called the Cock n' Bull.
Played my first real game of non-computer darts!
Unfortunately most of my darts wanted to kiss the ground.
Evan and I cheerin' on Zach at the open mic. He basically went last…which meant we played darts for like 2 hours.
The next morning there were a few talented photographers with popular Instagram accounts hosted at the Getty. A colleague and I popped by to take some photos for The Getty.
Chelsea near the cactus garden
The lovely cactus garden high above the horrible 405
Would love to find myself some "art socks"
A dramatic sky to finish the work day
Downtown foggy view on the way to L.A. Live. Basically a huge complex of theaters, a sports arena, shops, restaurants…it's kind of horrible hah.
Why am I at L.A. Live you may wonder? To see Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in 4Dx…hahahahha ughhhhhh. 4Dx is like…trying to be the next gen of movie experiences. You wear 3D glasses, but your individiual seat also moves and reacts to the action in the movie. It rumbles, it shakes…and sometimes water falls on your face. The room fogs, the ground shakes. Etc. I'll say that the plot of this film was preeeetty predictable and boring, but that I'll always love Caeser and it was a surprisingly complex emotional story. The 4Dx needs some work. Ha. Was interesting!
Flash forward. 4:30 AM. Droppin' Kikz off at the airport. She's off to a week in the midwest.
Flash forward. Fell asleep after the drop off a biiiit to long and missed the morning shuttle at work and took the tram. Was a pleasant start to the morning!
Processing some photos from the day before. You can see this one here!
Stripes and spots
Back to downtown again! Never sick of it.
Came across this little dog park on my way looking for a little movie theater.
I'm in an alley. I'm confused…
Found it!!!!!!!! Totally doesn't look like a typical theater facade. My bad.
Ticket for a film fest in town.
Zach having another big week, he had a little part in a film called Windowlicker. It's totally an aesthetic punch in the face. While your nose is bleeding your heart is choked and your face is laughing. It's all very overwhelming. But Zach's role is in a fake Real World style reality show.
I stood with Eli consuming free tacos and watching a band continue to set up, then sing, then set up more at the after party thing.
Back to Gettyland, through the rabbithole.
And here's the end of the day.
Off on a Thursday this week, and LOOK at the amazing surprise. TWO RED TOMATOES. MY FIRST TOMATOES!
I LOVE YOU FIRST BORN TOMATO!
Roastin' some zucchini and kale.
Big breakfast to practice soft-boiling eggs.
And heading to South Pas. I've got a dentist appt in a few hours.
Gotta snuggle the boy to sleep first
I think I'm looking more and more like gollum these days.
Why are medical buildings so square and horrifying always
I wonder if there are furniture companies that only do waiting room designs
Check up went for 2 hours. Whew. Turns out I have 2 cavities. UGHHHHH. Need to go back Wednesday…
Late lunch slash early dinner with parentals. We majorly feasted.
Enough leftovers literally for days. Thanks, parents!
99 Ranch to pick up a rice cooker
Dropping by Jordans to see the new Mario Kart on Wii U in action.
All the horrifying, industrial "sites" to see during a morning run. Hahah ugh.
Picked up my film and new film
My lips are tingling. Been picking them too much.
Got a Mean Girls reference into a post about drawings and french fashion.
Friday was an event with No Age at the Center.
This meant taking lots of photos. One of the interns this summer wants to do a fashion/style feature and I'm helping with the visuals. Lots of trendy peeps. So trendy.
SO TRENDY
(Wearing one of the masks of volunteer performers for No Age)
Oh yeah! I realized I never showed my completed lego Big Ben!
Taking the pups on a long walk this Saturday.
Swingin'
The Tweedz
Turns out this park has a giant man-made "Japanese garden" and lake
Wandered around for a few hours until the pups were SOOO not happy to walk anymore.
Craving soup dumpings and this amazing garlic crab fried rice.
I can't remember the last time I had boba! This is matcha milk tea.
Hilariously the very drink I'm holding is the one depicted on the do-not-bring-inside sign
The sky is SO INTO IT these days
Brought my little crafting bag over to Gabby's
Attempting to make my 3rd crochet item EVER for my mom's b-day.
We are the coolest people on a Saturday night
Shitty crochet and the Amazing Race
Here's a better photo in the light the next morning!
I decided to make a second one to have two pot holders
Meanwhile…Tweedy is battling some MAJOR skin irritation. Poor boy. He can't help but itch. Shirt of shame.
Over to Pasadena for Obon! It's already Obon season.
Beef teriyaki, soba, chirashi and other treats with the family
And of course a watermelon shaved ice with condensed milk
