This is Saturday, November 4, 2017!
Woke up in a hotel room in Anaheim and fell asleep in my childhood bedroom. In between, we celebrated my dad’s birthday out to dinner, I popped by a gallery to see a one-night only show, reunited with some friends who were living abroad, and finished Mindhunter *woo*.
Enjoy!
Woke up on the converted couch bed of the Paradise Pier hotel just outside of Disneyland. The day before I’d gone with my little cousins to celebrate their birthdays at Disneyland and as a birthday treat they got to stay up waaaay past their bedtimes to see the fireworks and Fantasmic. You can see pieces of that day in my weekly post from October 30–November 5, 2017.
View out the hotel window, hello Anaheim…
My little cousins were very consumed about how to get their colorful clips back into their hair since the day before there was a professional who put them into the older one’s braids at the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique.
Decided to walk to breakfast a different Disney hotel, the Grand Californian.
Gingerbread house in the shape of the hotel we’re standing in. Gingerception.
Hungry bear bear wandering around as we entered.
It’s buffet style, and as you eat characters come around and interact with you (or in my case, your little cousins). Though Pluto did scare the shit out of me.
Learned to tell Chip and Dale apart, Chip’s nose is small and brown like a chocolate chip. They also have slightly different hair and teeth, but that’s the main way to tell. #ProTip
Pluto encouraging them to play with their food.
Recovered their glowing ice cubes from the day before.
Back to the room to grab our stuff and head back home.
She insisted on carrying the bag that was a big as she is.
On the way home. Got dropped off at my parent’s house.
My mom was making her own dashi to cook some kabocha (Japanese pumpkin) in later this morning
I have some minor downloading to do.
Get to taste a bit of the kabocha…mmmm.
Snow smelling their bag of food
My dad took the hint and fed him a little
Took a shower, to clean away the Disneyland day yesterday.
Mom gave me a little scrubby she made for the sink
I retreat to bed to hang out quietly for a little.
Sent some photos to my phone from my fuji and posted them on Insta.
Been watching Mindhunter, a show based on the folks on the forefront of modern serial killer profiling. Basically the characters in Criminal Minds, but the original folks who did that work in the late 1970s and faced resistance along the way AND interviewed a bunch of horrible, gruesome serial killers. It’s great!
Marie!!! Happy to see her face.
Parents are antsy to get some dinner.
Well, we certainly beat the crowds.
Here to celebrate my dad’s birthday!
Fries and a really delicious beet salad with fried goat cheese
Part of a fried chicken sandwich
Yes, we did go eat and come back before 6pm.
Finished Mindhunter before getting myself back out of bed.
Listening to Imaginary Worlds podcast, the episode about fanfiction and its relationship to sci-fi and fantasy.
Stopped for some goodies for later.
Made it Chinatown, accidentally parked too far, had to back track a bit on foot.
Went out to see the Mix show at leimin space.
Ran into a few amwa folks, took a few pictures, wandered around as best I could. It was real crowded.
Snuck away, have to head out to Rob’s place.
Pulled up on this familiar street
Rob and Maria are back in town from like 6 months in New Zealand
Zach heads back to the apartment, I head back to my parent’s house.
Listening to Embedded’s series on Trump and how he does business.
And just like that I’m tucked away in bed, ready to fall asleep to the sound of Anthony Bourdain getting drunk and eating street food (jealous!!).
Btw—always looking for new shows and podcasts, if you’ve watched some great recently let me know. I need to stop watching Bones outside of the gym and watching something more quality…hah.
Much love friends.
Always jealous of Anthony Bourdain’s sweet food and travels! I love the pool tile (I don’t know what it’s called) wall your parents have at their house. I’ve seen it in your other days and thought it was a really unique feature. Thanks for sharing!

I’m not sure what the tile is called either…but I think it was a very trendy thing in the 90s? Either way, I love it too! They are re-doing their bathroom and they promised they’d keep it. Thanks for reading!

An so nice to see you back in your parents’ house, taking pics of familiar furniture, post-shower pic, and just hanging out (highschool posts nostalgia!). Only one missing is Yoko *crying*
That beet salad looks yummy. Your dad doesnt seem to age…
Imaginary Worlds podcast sounds interesting!
So awesome that you still had two events to go to that night and be back before 1am!
As for shows, I really enjoy Black Mirror!
