MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: NOVEMBER 27–DECEMBER 3, 2017!
Walking into the week with metallic shoes and walking out with a stomach full of Mickey-shaped treats and a festive heart. A week with folks in town, starting the advent calendars (yes, plural!), decorating for the Christmas season, and spending a lot of time with friends.
Enjoy!
Just wanted to start this week’s post saying *thank you* to the folks who have reached out to me on Twitter and Instagram to ask if I’m okay. I’m okay!
Los Angeles has been dealing with some huge wildfires the past week. Three major ones: Creek, Rye, and Skirball fires have spurred hundreds of thousands of evacuations in Los Angeles County, and even more devastating, the Thomas Fire in Ventura has claimed at least 400 homes forcing 100,000 people to evacuate and these fires are still burning. I’ve seen posts from friends on Facebook who have lost everything, I’ve seen posts about how wildlife centers and ranches have burned to the ground and lost animals, it’s all so so sad. I’ll just leave a link here that has some basic “how to help” information, but I also encourage you if you want to find a few smaller orgs and individual people/families to help.
General info on fire relief funds, etc.
Thomas Fire in Ventura County how to help
This is currently the active wildfire map as of Saturday morning (December 9, 2017) at approximately 9am. The “little” fire at the bottom near the area that says Hollywood is the Skirball Fire. The Skirball Fire came so close to where I work, the Getty Center, that staff were asked to stay home for 2.5 days as emergency personnel used the Getty to house firefighters and monitor the situation.

You may have seen this video? It was shot on Wednesday morning directly across from where I work, and sadly a few of the homes didn’t make it through the fire. Just wanted to pause and say thank you to the firefighters and first responders who slept on lawnchairs and on the grass as they fought these fires day and night. Hopefully things will turn around for the other fires burning across Southern California.
A piece on the Getty Center and how it handled the fire.
Okay! Resuming programming. A gentle reminder that the photos from this post are from last week, end of November through December 3.
Monday morning in his new terrarium. Glenn being peak Glenn.
Starting the week attempting to break in my new shoes.
The tree I’ve been watching since it started turning yellow finally lost its leaves! Pretty.
Metallic Oxfords, I’m afraid to scuff them!
Wing night, tried a few varieties: lemon pepper, cajun seasoning, and then my classic rosemary chicken wings.
Face eczema has not been great, sad to report.
Stealing Tristan’s nose and comparing undertones.
Leaving the research library and admiring the view.
Metropolis! “This exhibition presents the colonial city as the urban model imposed by the Iberian powers, and the new republican city as a transfer of sources and technical knowledge that were eventually appropriated, interpreted, and later subverted through a wave of revivals.”
Getting that nice view of the Central Garden
Tuesday night hangs with Kiki and Zach’s friends who are in town. Had to start with Alibi Room for some short rib quesadillas.
The lockers in the gym are shaped so oddly.
Taking over for our video guy for an afternoon shooting in the paintings conservation studio.
Nothing to do for the rest of the day, decided on some Mickey buns.
Got the grill set up for Zach’s friends in town.
Posted my first full day in Bangkok! Read it here if you haven’t seen…260 photos *ahhh*.
Got all the Christmas holiday decor stuff out.
But first had to figure out where to hang my little “Die-o-ramas” a gift from Zach.
We also got our advent calendar set up! We got this big cloth one from Zach’s mom a few years back and last year we decided to refill it with our own gifts and we did the same this year. We each shopped for 13 days (I got evens, Zach got odds) at Daiso and then we get to alternate opening days up.
Day 1 I got a little cat bottle opener.
Zach’s mom kindly and unexpectedly sent new advent calendars too, so I get to open some body products woo!
Glenn’s temporary tree as I re-sort his terrarium.
I think he likes this set up much better.
Going to have to deal with that stack of books at some point.
Friday morning bike rides toward the beach
Dockweiler Beach, just us and some seagulls.
Getting ready to meet up with Tristan for a lot of metro-ing, walking, and hopping from place to place tonight.
I left Zach and he was busy sorting cards (later he told me this took him 3 hours but that the guy at the game store insisted he check because he’s had issues with incomplete decks)
Quickly whipped up some late lunch/early dinner.
We had leftover meat from the grill night so I made a stir fry with cheese that we had with the sesame leaves. Pretty good.
Made it to Tristan’s apartment, he’s ready for the holidays
First stop? To see the Latin American video art show at LAXART.
Found a poster for the movie about J. Paul Getty
Found a place for a happy hour drop in between galleries and they gave us these sticks…what…are….they? We ate them anyways.
Walking up Highland to Hollywood to catch the metro
I walked Tristan to the Scientology building and dropped him off to pursue his life goals.
Tried a beer made with lemongrass
More walking to another stop. Didn’t take photos there…
Had to get the rattlesnake sausage
Good morning my uterus is bleeding so I have to wear this sweatshirt
Still struggling along with my puzzle
He just…went over and sat there.
Left the house after slugging around and doing my puzzle all morning.
3rd Street Promenade. I have some gifts to sort out.
Zach reppin’ the elephant sanctuary
Kazu Nori, here to eat a bunch of hand rolls
Then Kiki and Ders met up with us at Santa Monica Brew Works for a quick ‘hello’
Day 3! I opened this tamago keychain
Today is the day, Kiki is joining us in getting her own Disneyland pass so we can escape this hellish American existance and escape to our childhoods *while yes still paying the Mouse but heyo*
Is this a “tomorrowland” Chrismas tree or just a bundle of sticks
I turned around and screamed…the Beast and Belle right behind us.
Found a curb seat for the holiday parade.
Now you’ve seen the “Christmas Fantasy” parade too!
Heading out to California Adventure
It’s the festive food stand season
Thanks Zach for this cute but slightly out of focus picture
And then it was time for our last ride of the evening, back to California Adventure for the Guardians ride.
Artefacts from “The Collector’s” museum…OKAY but parchment shouldn’t be lit this bright!!!! Bad for pigments!
Kiki’s first time on the Guardian’s version. I’ll end the week with this.
Hope you are having a good week in your part of the world.
Much love friends.
Those fires were crazy! Glad you’re okay and thanks for letting us know how to help.
Looking at all these food again makes me crave so much! But I’ve started running too haha to offset calories! Thanks for letting me know your secret!
Love your Christmas set-up at home, and that advent calendar thing is the best ever! I’ll try it next year.
Also, wanted to let you know that I’ve shown at least 3 friends going to Thailand your Bangkok post and they love it, copying your itinerary.
Tristan is just so cute!
And I swear, that puzzle that you’re working on seems so hard.
Thanks for sharing the Christmas Fantasy parade photos! At least I’ve seen them here hehe…
Love how Disneyland looks like German towns 🙂
Always nice to see Kiki! I still remember Modbands (i think that’s the name?)…
