I’m new to wordpress, and I’m just now discovering the functionality of ways to follow blogs and to get notified when new posts are up. Just wanted to share a few ways to follow this blog, so the posts come to you and you don’t have to come check (assuming you are even interested in doing that!)
This may all be super basic, in fact I’m sure it is pretty self-explanatory, but just wanted to alert those traveling far from the depths of the Internet that there are ways for posts to come to you, so you don’t have to remember my new blog address or do any hunting at all.
The WordPress Reader
If you have a wordpress account or want to make one, you’ll have access to the reader.
The reader shows you the most recent posts from blogs that you follow. The reader also allows you to search for topics that you’re interested in—”photography” or “design” for example, and they’ll show you recent posts that use that tag and give you the option to follow.
To follow Sleepy Waldo, scroll all the way to the bottom of my homepage here, and you’ll see a blue rectangle with a wordpress logo that says “Follow SLEEPY WALDO.”
Follow Blog via Email
If you don’t have a wordpress account and don’t want to make one, you may also have noticed in the screenshot above that there’s a follow blog via email option.
This will notify you via e-mail when I’ve posted something new (duh). If you enter your e-mail address and hit follow, you’ll get an e-mail immediately in your inbox that looks something like the e-mail below.
From here you can adjust your delivery preferences, as well as check out some recent posts. You can unsubscribe in that e-mail as well if you decide you would rather not see me pop up in your e-mail every week.
Feedly
Feedly is a news and blog aggregate with a pleasant looking sign. I used Feedly at work to monitor arts news before we got a social listening tool. To find and follow this blog on Feedly, you’d need to connect with a Google account, a Feedly account, or a Facebook account.
Search for ‘sleepy waldo’ or ‘sleepywaldo’ in the upper right search bar, select “sleepywaldo websites’ in the drop down and my blog will appear.
You’ll see my blog and icon appear with a green button on the right side “Follow/Unfollow”. Not sure how I got tagged as lifestyle, but there ya go.
RSS
To find my RSS feed, or the feed of any blog hosted on wordpress. Just add /feed after the blog’s address. Mine can be found here.
This may all be super basic, in fact I’m sure it is pretty self-explanatory, but just wanted to alert those traveling far from the depths of the Internet that there are ways for posts to come to you, so you don’t have to remember my new blog address or do any hunting at all.
I probably missed a really valuable or easy thing. I’m still learning too. If you have suggestions of feed readers, blog aggregates, or tools that I didn’t include (I’m sure I missed a lot) please let me know. I just want to make life easier as I know this blog is just one small destination in your Internet ecosystem.
Hope this was useful to just one person.
Happy WordPressing!
I use Feedly!
