MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: AUGUST 15-21, 2016!
My summer intern’s last week, popsicles, hosting a periscope at the Getty Villa, bringing my gecko to work, seeing a magician (and doubting my ability to love magic), and meeting my friend Lena in New York for the start of our 5 day vacation in the Big Apple.
Enjoy!
Whenever I clean gecko’s cage he climbs on me
Empanadas for lunch at work! Love leftovers…especially empanadas…
Pizza party game night on a Monday? What’s better.
Settlers of Catan and DiGiorno (NOT DELIVERY IT’S DIGIORNO)
Tuesday morning driving with the lead grounds and gardens staff
A view from the Getty from a nearby weather station hill
Some great objects, mental notes, to look up later. Especially this backwards man.
Hosting Periscope like a nervous nelly
Stopping by Mateo’s, my fav paletas store nearby to pick up treats for my intern’s party
Popsicles, whisked away to the freezer at work
My attempt to label the flavors at the party
So. Many. Happy. Popsicle. Eaters.
Sara wincing while enjoying Indian food delivery. Good luck at Burning Man, Sara!
Gecko! Tristan is watching gecko for a few days, so I had to say goodbye and bring him to work….
Just casually holding a gecko at the gym
Happy, healthy gecko at the office
Drinking my gin and tonic, mentally prepping to see an illusionist, Derek DelGuadio.
We entered and picked from a large wall what we’d like to be thought of, aspirationally. I picked cobbler – skilled, hard-working…humble.
And took our seats. Honestly, I don’t now enough about magic, illusionists, trends in those areas, etc. The show was more of a storytelling hour with a few tricks, wrapped around the thematic thread of real v. perception of your identity. I hear so much about identity and these things, maybe cuz of the art school thing, that it wasn’t that fascinating of a discussion and I wanted more razzle dazzle! Maybe I just want the ooohs and aaahs of a typical magic show…like a total nerd.
One of his tricks did involve disappearing a gold brick to a random intersection (determined by the audience) and afterwards we drove to see if it was there….and IT WAS!
His staff definitely had the time to drive it there, but I appreciate the attention to detail. 🙂
Getting rid of junk at midnight
Lunch with my parents, including yummy fries and burgers
Neck pillow Gabby! Hilariously, we booked separate trips and ended up on the same flight to New Jersey
I love me a red eye, you get sunset and sunrise
First day in New York, fresh off a red eye
LENA!!!!!! Remember Lena? French friend, we met both studying abroad in London…I missed her! We planned to meet in New York, halfway between us…
Her first encounter with fried chicken and waffles
Even Rachel was there for a work trip, we all met up for brunch
And Jules! Lena’s cousin, and friend I made while in London the second time.
We went to see Finding Neverland on Broadway!
Lena got Zach the autograph of a weird lil’ bit character and he was so delighted
My favorite character, Nana the dog
You can BUY the stuff in the Reese’s peanut butter cups…in Times Square of course
It’s quite a long windy walk, but the worst part was the crowds. Just a warning it gets crowded!
Now in an area called DUMBO in Brooklyn
Ended the night in Pedro’s, with margaritas and super nachos
Cheeks are a lil’ irritated…got real nervous the eczema was going to flare badly
Scyther at the Cooper Hewitt Museum!
Wax Museum, was in there briefly to try out the Void, the 4D oculus rift maze that was Ghost Busters themed
Wish these were in all LA stops! Snacks and water and more
Rainy, drizzling, walking, eating
Snuck in a picnic with cheese, crackers, fruit, veggies, and more in Central Park
We took cover at a juice/coffee shop with a free photobooth
Walking through rainy SoHo and Little Italy
A lovely night in the New York rainy city
That ended with delivery ramen and Pitch Perfect 2 on the TV.
Much love friends.
