MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: APRIL 6 – 12, 2015!
A museum conference takes me to Chicago and with Kiki as my guide anything is possible. Especially burgers with eggs. And deep dish. And bloody mary’s. Food mostly, but also architecture, river cruisin’, museums, art, and more food.
Enjoy!
Hellish visit to the post office but finally successfully sent out my snacks to Singapore!
Last day at work before my Chi-town trip!
New comedy space! Here for Evan’s b-day storytelling show. Zeen did a spot.
A stop at Canter’s Deli nearby for some matzo ball soup
Tweedy why don’t you love me! Pay attention to me!
Last shot of the pups to carry with me on my week long journey to Chicago!
Kiki is downstairs ready to go!
Trying my first bloody mary too early at the airport’s Gladstones
Flyin’ Virgin aka club lighting is annoying this early
Flying over a snowy mountain! Gorgeous. Watched 3 episodes of like early 2000s Law & Order SVU. Why have I never seen this before? Obsessed now.
Took the train to downtown and dropped baggage off at the hotel
My first romp around the city! I was there for a museum conference, but had a few days and afternoons to myself.
Took a train to West Loop to get food at Little Goat!
Overly huge, but very yummy tonkatsu sandwich
Went to a nearby “secret” bar (not so secret, I found it on yelp) nearby in West Loop. Yummy small plates and great cocktails with a secret vibe.
Travel tired, but excited and ready for the week face! (But my bangs you guys!)
Used half of my bubble bar from LUSH
And did some reading before bed. Ready to get into the museum nerdiness all week.
First day of the conference! Had a half-day workshop and then was free all afternoon. We walked to the Bean!
Optical illusions in Millenium Park
I split off to attend another evening session and the opening conference party at the Art Institute of Chicago! Such a gorgeous place. This is the modern wing.
Back to West Loop area for what was described to me as “the best burger ever”
Beautiful egg on the cheese burger. Oh man oh man. This was my fav place.
Art Institute again! The main building
Me doin’ the Ferris Bueller with the Seurat
Back for another session with my co-worker!
Using blue line this time to meet up with Kiki in Logan Square
Me crashin’ the party of Kiki’s friendship reunion
After morning sessions went to visit Jane Addams’ Hull-House
Check it out! Jane Addams was a total innovator and social justice badass. She was considered the most dangerous woman alive for her work with women, families, and social work. Her wiki here.
Ida B. Wells’s influence: Eerily similar to today if you replace “lynching” with “unarmed shooting”.
Jane Addams bedroom! She had surgery in her bed right there. Gorgeous wallpaper designed by William Morris’ daughter
Check it out if you’re ever in the area
On my walk back to the conference hotel, stopped at Giordanos
Aka it’s just upside-down pizza (sauce on top, toppings on bottom) but it was soooo cheesy and good
An evening at the Museum of Science and Industry! SUCH a gorgeous HUGE building.
Mini-bags of “chicago” style popcorn. Cheese and caramel
Last bath! (Saved all my products to use on this trip haha)
Saturday! Last day of the conference and Kiki got a ticket for us to do the river architecture cruise
Wilco towers! (it’s actually a parking garage)
Brown river, but still so pretty!
These giant modern buildings popped up along the river after the fire destroyed everything.
Dinner time at this awesome outdoor chicken/fish restaurant called Parsons. Highly recommend!
Saw the bassist from Wilco there! Small world. Wilco Chicago circle complete.
I documented Sunday and Monday in full, so you’ll see those soon
Aw Pepe, looks so much like Tweedy. Cousins.
Sunday afternoon Settlers game
Really desperate for animal attention
Met up with Colee who lives in Chicago now!
Just gooooofin! Look for more in the documented days soon.
Chicago is really awesome. You should visit. 🙂
Much love friends.
