MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: DECEMBER 29 – JANUARY 4
Welcome to the New Year! Unfortunately mine started with the flu, but hey other fun stuff happened in the week before! A Southern California SNOW day, lots of yummy Japanese foods, a visit from a Bay area friend, and adorable cats and cousins. Enjoy!!
Welcome to the week that is the start of the new year!!!!!!!
Started off the week with a visit to the Norton Simon in Pasadena with my parents.
We got there a bit early, classic. I was surprised to see a lot of folks waiting to get in!
My dad wanted to come see the Manet on loan from the National Gallery
The Getty has this sculpture as well, it's fun to see it in a more natural context
My dad LOVES this sculpture. I even have a book I remember reading a lot as a child that was about Degas and the little dancer.
Afterwards, we popped by our local Senor Fish for fish tacos. Yum!
Can't resist the museum bookstore.
Gabby's autogenerated Mii ahahah
My mom wanted me to make some of my thank you notes for her to give as little gifts to her friends.
Gabby worked on a note with my face ahah
Zuli arrives! She's visiting from the Bay
Have to take visitors to our classic South Pas mini golf course
Visiting the only pub in South Pas
Playing checkers with the coins in my wallet
Give the brush down to Snow every morning. He waits for me on the little cat perch.
HUGE breakfast to share for only $6ish.
A journey to the biggest Good Will I've ever seen
No finds, but impressed by the size.
I decided to be a brat and "go to the snow" which in Southern California is a confusing thing. I had to google "places to see snow?" and dumb things like that. But soon we got in the car and just started driving.
We were headed up this windy road for a long time. Started seeing dense fog, then we started seeing SNOW!!!!!
I'm still kind of surprised that we found snow. (SUCH A DUMB GENERAL STATEMENT)
World's worst chairlift ride. SO yeah, because we didn't really believe we'd find snow, we SO WERE NOT PREPARED clothes wise. Yeah. Winds and snow blowing directly into your face as you ride a chairlift that takes over 15 minutes to go up the hill. Which doesn't seem like a lot until you feel like you're slowly dying/freezing haah
Sure was pretty though! (In the times that I lifted my face out of my scarf)
Found a seat at the bar in the restaurant/cafe/lodge.
Sat there, warmed up, really soaked in the heat…
And prepared ourselves for the inevitable ride down
As soon as we got down the hill (which was a bit better to have the wind blowing at your back instead of your face) we ran to the car.
Raining as we went back into the city
Lil Doggie helper. My mom and I went to my cousin's house to try our hand at making our own tamales!
Spent most of the time like this
While my cousin, Auntie, mom and I did the real work haha
While they steamed I was commanded to paint my lil' cousins nails.
Spent most of New Years Eve afternoon crocheting scarves for the kitties.
WITH my hair in these dumb lil' buns (it's hard with my shorter hair to keep the strands out of my face)
Made a lil' scarf for Tux, Gabby's brothers new rescue.
Then headed over to my other cousin's house for New Years feast. Have to have your soba.
Then headed back to my apartment to get ready with friends for the NYE party. The theme selected was "Black Tie, Black Eye." So you're supposed to be fancy but with a black eye, as if you just got in a school yard fight or something.
And my job at the party was to set up a photobooth for what was our third school picture day party.
Took over 3,000 photos that night, of super smiling faces ready for the first day of school (but with black eyes).
Then headed over to our family friend's house for annual Japanese New year eatings and celebrations.
Everybody getting their food pictures in
Started feeling crappy on New Years day. Honestly thought it was a hangover, but the headache and nausea started like maybe around 7 PM. Woke up with the same headache and nausea…
Somehow managed to edit through and share the photos from the NYE party.
Joe made this collage of us from all three years! Gah!
By the next day (Saturday) I was having constant chills, constant body aches, super painful joints, fever, sweats, the whole shebang. (CUTE PIC SARAH, WHY DID YOU TAKE IT, BUT HEY HERE IT IS)
Homemade wonton soup! Thanks mama
Sunday morning, still had a hard time sleeping. Just felt horrible still. That headache never went away, still feeling feverish. So my mom took me to urgent care, and I had this awesome weird test where they stick a swab up your nostril and take tissue from your sinus area…and BAM diagnosed with the flu! YAY!
I don't remember the last time I had the flu, if ever. It's not really fun. I even had a flu shot this year, but I guess this year has been only a 33% success rate. Too bad.
Sorry to end this week on a gross note, but…hey! It happened wahh.
Much love friends.
