FILM SCANS: ISIS OASIS & NAPA
A weird weekend at an Ancient Egyptian themed retreat and Francis Ford Coppola’s ridiculous winery. All around weird. But very fun. 🙂
I’m continuing to go through all my film scans from this year.
These are from a ridiculous weekend where Zach, Marie and I drove up to Napa (even further North than San Francisco) on a Friday night. We left at like 7 PM, drove through until like 3 AM. Here’s the weekly photos from that week if you wanna see iphone version of the week.
We arrived, met with the group, and went straight to bed. When we woke up…we truly realized the weird land we had arrived in.
Starting off – we were in a building/theater room? Sleeping on mattresses on the floor. It was comfy! But the room…FULL of faux-Egyptian “Ancient” relics.
When you walked out of the multipurpose room there were cages with huge cats and all kinds of exotic birds.
ALPACAS TOO!?!?! I wanted to touch them so bad. They wouldn’t come close enough…
We wandered around, everybody completely sleepy and confused…
Marija found this place on Airbnb. It’s definitely used as some kind of…retreat? But we were there in what seemed to be an off time for them.
Exploring the area. So many little alcoves with organic shaped concrete sitting areas.
Here’s a view of our sleeping room. You can see all the little beds on the ground, and the stage where maybe some kind of performances happen?
And here’s that building from the outside
We were there Saturday to visit the Francis Ford Coppola winery. On the hunt for food…
Had to leave the Oasis to venture out… *siiigh*
We eventually found a little cafe, had some breakfast tacos and coffee.
We hung around the Oasis until a more appropriate time to visit the winery. I don’t know what that means. But we played Ancient Egyptian ping pong and Ancient Egyptian billiards.
Finally made it to the Francis Ford Coppola winery. Weird place, that’s for sure. Looks like a palace or estate on miles of land. Has a massive swimming pool, places to lay out, restaurants, a museum…
By the time I had wandered around the “museum” and stuff, finally found everybody downstairs tasting some wine.
Apparently the woman pouring the wine was very suspicious that my group wasn’t going to pay. She kept “checking in”, eyeballing a few peeps from across the bar, randomly showing up. Reminding us to pay? I didn’t notice, but some peeps were pretty annoyed.
Found folks again sitting at the cocktail bar, on one of the patios.
Alyssie came by! She’s been living up in the Bay. What a delightful treasure.
We were waiting for dinner reservations at the restaurant to come around.
Dancing with the capes we found in our sleeping room
Dancing around like idiots, swirling in the disco ball and spotlight. We also had cake from Vienna. We had to wake up really early to get going…yeah…not smart. I had to get back for a family thing.
Picking up Marie from her family’s house
My favorite part of driving to the Bay is passing these roadside farm stands.
Gilroy, the garlic town. Buying garlic salsa!
And that’s the end of this journey.
Much love friends.
