MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: FEBRUARY 11–17, 2019!
Valentine’s day with a steak night at home, Zach-themed pottery, and ramen at lunch. I also spend some time with my parents, get into Pen15, and eat too many spicy Dorito tacos before going to the horse races.
Enjoy!
Good morning! Our bag from Utah is still sitting right in the middle of the kitchen.
Looks like the veggies have survived the weekend
Sitting on my clothes pile as usual
Tuesday—Zach whips up some shishito peppers and salmon
Delicious salmon, but the shishito peppers had so many unusually spicy ones.
Tweedy joins the party. Sometimes I think he’s a liquid that forms to any container.
Wednesday morning, catching my carpool. The rain has left behind a trail of gravel.
In Tristan’s cars there are extra passengers.
Zach’s mom sent some cute ass baby photos for Valentine’s Day. Zach’s love for dogs started young.
Valentine’s present—a small Zach head I made in pottery studio.
The rain has returned, and today I’m at the Getty Villa. I brought my laptop and wrapped it in a plastic bag because it didn’t fully fit into the backpack.
In the office, cute Valentine’s donuts and cards.
For lunch, I got a special delivery!
Way better than my normal lunch for sure
Took Zach to see an exhibition at the GRI, and then parted ways. Thank you for lunch!
Back at home, mini-grocery shop complete.
Threw on the dress I got for Christmas from Japan, it’s flowy and big and I love it
I’m in charge of potatoes tonight
Garlic potatoes ready for the oven
Manhattans while the potatoes roast and the steaks rest for their big night.
Rub garlic on the bread, rub tomato on top, add some olive oil…enjoy!
After spending much time in storage, the pinball machine Zach got from his dad’s old house is finally up and running.
Back to the Villa, driving with my car Yeti protector
The beach from Pacific Coast Highway
Sometimes you have to stop and watch some surfers
In time to have my leftover ramen
Rainy night—got home and watched a video about a salt expert guessing cheap versus expensive salt because boy do I always want to know more about salt.
It is time for the Ru Paul Drag Race All Stars 4 finale!
Saturday morning and we’re getting some orchid action!
My mom and Zach dote on the money tree who has been feeling unhappy inside. My mom thought maybe there was too much soil packed too tightly.
Got the hummingbird feeder set up
Quickly planting these chives my mom bought us
Brunch with my parents at a pub nearby. I tried for the most English breakfast thing on the menu, but it wasn’t a full one for sure.
Caught my dad helping my mom put on her shoes…wow, a real life Cinderella moment.
Gave up on this winter puzzle, it was uninspiring and I didn’t want to finish it. So! I decided to quit.
Busted out the Haunted Mansion puzzle yay!
Binged all of Pen15 which I truly connected with and loved dearly. It’s gross, funny, and as stressful as being a girl in 7th grade felt—plus it really beautifully captures the intimacy of a early teen friendship where you both are teetering so closely between childhood and teenage life unsure of how or if you should cross over.
Plus one of the co-creators/stars is half Japanese too so extra relatability points. She’s cuter tho.
Later that day we took advantage of a free delivery for Taco Bell promotion and like SICKOS ordered a true feast to watch Spiderman with Rob.
Our trilogy tradition continues, now with Spiderman from 2002.
Sunday, a mildly rainy day but we had planned to spent it at the Santa Anita Race Track. (This was before all the news of the horse deaths came out, which has been so sad to see! 21 horses this season have died at Santa Anita apparently, potentially attributed to the usually wet winter we’ve had in Southern California)
Gobbled down a half a sandwich before the first race
Will it rain? Will it not? (It did)
A brief Lunar New Year celebration moment
Back to gambling and walking to and from the stables to more closely observe the horses.
Well that rainbow was lucky for somebody…
Afterwards, we went out to eat some house special crab, chow mein, and salt and pepper shrimp mmmmmmm. Craving it all over again. A beautiful Sunday with friends.
Thanks for reading!

Some questions that you may or may not feel inclined to answer? I dug up some questions from a tag question website…so original. So! Let’s do it. I invite you to answer in the comments:
- What is the hardest part of your job?
- If you had time to do volunteer work, what would you do?
- If you could give your younger self any advice what would it be?

- What is the hardest part of your job?
It’s a fun challenge to work with so many folks across my organization—I’m always trying to learn to be a better communicator and collaborator, listening to where people are coming from and doing the best work together we can. Everybody’s work style is different. - If you had time to do volunteer work, what would you do?
I used to be a camp counselor, I miss working with kids. - If you could give your younger self any advice what would it be?
Be a better listener, you’re not always right, learn about the world, be nicer to your mom, and hug Yoko even more.

Much love friends.
Salt and pepper shrimp and chicken are my absolute favourite Chinese-American staples. I could eat them forever.
What is the hardest part of your job?
– As a teacher, the hardest part is knowing that I have students that are struggling and that school as it’s set up is just not right for everyone.
If you had time to do volunteer work, what would you do?
– Volunteer is a strange word, because it implies unpaid. But uhm…I’ve just been invited to the Peace Corps as a Volunteer! I’s been my dream.
If you could give your younger self any advice what would it be?
– Study political science and international relations.
