MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: NOVEMBER 5–11, 2018! (PASADENA FLEA MARKET, GINGERBREAD, AND MOCHI)
New pottery pieces finished, holidays at Disneyland, plants and second-hand finds at the Pasadena Flea Market, shooting more recipes for the amwa cookbook, and seeing friends and family before prepping to leave for Denver.
Enjoy!
Morning! Here at work early to help a coworker with some prototype testing.
Love this sweater, originally Alyssa’s that I accidentally kidnapped for so long she let me keep it.
First day at work since the time change, and it’s now super dark when we leave.
Trying some wider and taller shapes at pottery studio
Some successes and not so successes that were finished up from last week.
Zeen too kind, always trying to compliment my pieces even when they are clearly very shitty.
Tuesday, Election Day in the States. Did my duty.
Another beautiful sunset evening after work, couldn’t help it.
Getty Research Institute by night
Gobbled up some takeout Vietnamese
Went out to see Mystery Science Theater at LA Live. Watched a movie called “The Brain” it was truly silly and bad and great all at once.
Just wanted to get some better shots of the pieces I like in the daylight. Forgive meee.
Still love this cup, I want to try to make more of this design if I even can.
Oh yeah, we got this little cart that fits in the narrow space between the oven and the wall. Holds all the cooking oil and stuff.
Helloooo. Been a busy week, just getting ready for a conference we had the next week (currently here now in Denver!)
Trying to get my skin back into shape, but somehow also trying to tell myself that this little constellation of stars on my cheeks is cute too.
Tristan helping me with some important last minute xerox zine making for a conference thing.
BLESSED to have come home from a long day to a friggin cheese board. A+ effort on all fronts. Some cheese choices we may need to rethink for next time, but overall WAHH so grateful for cheese. It heals all.
Friday, got a comp day so decided to mentally escape and go to Disneyland which happened to be the first day of the holiday season decorations and stuff.
Already bright and sunny in the morning
Went to the Jolly Holiday bakery to get a breakfast and of course scope out the treats. I don’t even love sweets, but I love just seeing what is offered.
Croissant with ham and cheese inside
Tried to take a photo but then all the napkins blew away
Why on earth is there Star Wars Ep. 3 merchandise
Wore the band shirt to the concert
Wandering around the candy shop
Popcorn buckets waiting to be fed popcorn
There was a special festival of the holidays food fair thinggy, we tried the pork belly adobo.
A curry cauliflower soup (SO good)
And of course Zeen cannot resist queso.
Tigger with ears too small and a head too big
Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats. I tried the lemon one…yummm.
Sun starting to set, lights starting to get all twinkly
Beautiful gateway to the restrooms
Feliz Navidad celebration with Mickey and Minnie
Wandered back into Disneyland down Main Street to see everything lit up
Not bad. Goodnight, Disneyland
amwa cookbook shoot (almost coming to the end of these shoots) today, a mochi dish and a dish called bai.
Trying the mochi! Happy faces.
Moving on to shooting the second dish
The best part of these shoots is sitting together and eating and talking about food and food memories and family history. Very pleasant.
The light was so red and warm from the fires and smoke over the skies in LA. It was like a beautiful horrible sign from the sky.
Taco truck on a Saturday night
Bundled up and ready to head out to the flea market on Sunday morning
He’s always touching up against something I’ve worn recently. Maybe that means I should probably not leave my stuff around.
Somehow we spent almost 4 hours wandering around the Flea Market. It was great! I still felt like there was more I didn’t see.
We shared a pulled pork BBQ sandwich and some garlic fries
Trying to protect my lamp with my beanie
Yay! After a looong wait (many years) and a long process prepping everything, my parents updated their kitchen! New tile and counter and sink!
They still have a little more to do, but overall they are so happy and excited. Congrats, parents!
Moved all our plants to the kitchen window because a few of my orchids were unhappy.
Yay! New stool for the bathroom. I was looking for something to stack towels or clothes while showering.
Trying out some arrangements of paintings and stuff. We still haven’t truly 100% unpacked but I like seeing stuff on the walls.
My gorls came over and we made some garlic avocado toast, pasta, etc.
I managed to successfully pack up my clothes for my trip to Denver the coming week.
Thanks for reading!

Some questions that you may or may not feel inclined to answer? I normally borrow some from old Livejournal surveys, but these are just random ones. Let’s do it. I invite you to answer in the comments:
- What’s the best thing you’ve thrifted or purchased second hand?
- Are you an overpacker or an underpacker? What’s your packing strategy?
- What’s your favorite street food? If it’s tacos…what’s your order?

My favorite was actually a gift from a local deli that Zach and I loved so much that closed. Zach got me two punny deli figurines in their closing auction (they had these punny deli/celeb sculptures on their walls), and I’m counting that as second hand. - Are you an overpacker or an underpacker? What’s your packing strategy?
If the trip is to a place that seems ‘nearby’ to me, I tend to be an overpacker because I’m like, hey no big deal lugging this thing around. But if it is far and I perceive it as a farther than usual, I strive for underpacking to make room for souveniers, gifts, etc. - What’s your favorite street food? If it’s tacos…what’s your order?
I’m going with my taco order since I ate at a taco truck this past week. Al pastor, green salsa, yes plz.

Are you an overpacker or an underpacker? What’s your packing strategy?
– I am a one bag packer. There’s a website that gives tips and tricks!

– Hot dogs in Iceland and blue corn tortilla tacos with beef tongue and pico de gallo.

Your ceramics are cute! They’re not shitty–I can barely throw anything. I mainly just stick to handbuilding because I can’t really throw.
