MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: JULY 23–29, 2018! (BACK TO LA, DOGGIE BEACH, MOM’S BIRTHDAY)
Attempting to beach jet lag by living life as normally as possible—eating with friends, cooking at home, going to pottery, working, seeing my parents, and spoiling the dogs as much as possible.
Enjoy!
Hello! I got back from Switzerland last Sunday (July 22) and my plan is to just post the weekly post with my travel photos and let that work out for me. I tend to overthink and want to perfectly edit and curate the travel photos for my big trips…but as we can see…that means it takes me a long time to share. And that doesn’t do anybody good! I posted a few things on Instagram, but I have more to share for sure! But I don’t want to get overwhelmed and my plan is to get the week out in one post. We’ll see how that goes. Fingers crossed.
Good morning! It’s Monday. We got back from Switzerland on Sunday the day before. I pushed myself to stay awake until 8:30 PM which I think was good for jetlag but made me really grumpy. We brought back these treats from Switzerland. One is for my mom’s birthday and the other is for us to slowly eat and enjoy.
My sweet mom dropped off some teriyaki chicken for me when she dropped off the dogs. I had some lunch to take to work for the week, yay.
James Waldo Dean back to work in my lil’ denim jacket. Tristan has a similar jacket and I was hoping he would wear it so we’d accidentally match. My plan did not work.
Was weirdly craving spicy buffalo wings, so we had that for dinner at home. I think my version is my favorite version, which makes me happy that I don’t want to pay for it anymore.
Was feeling pretty jet-lagged and tired but I still went to pottery. I tried to challenge myself by throwing my first 3 pound piece (yes, I’m still a major amateur). It turned into a kind of crooked plate.
Marie told me this looks like bird shit. It’s not. It’s clay. 😦
Sometimes you pick a glaze and it’s nice and sometimes it looks like sculpted dog poop. Oh well!
Tuesday, went for a morning run to get those pokemon eggs hatching and the sun on my face.
Happy hour with Tristan—spicy tuna on crispy rice, shishito peppers, and more.
I’ll never stop loving the Totoro in Giant Robot’s shop window.
A few months ago I almost bought car head rest pillows with this kitty face on it from Daiso. I saw they had a neck rest version…so tempted.
Made pasta for dinner, tried out a new type of noodle and made a better sauce and I was living my best tired life. I ate in bed so I could enjoy the air conditioner because of course LA is in the middle of another heat wave.
Made this birthday card for my mom, I thought it came out pretty cute.
I went back to South Pas to clear out some furniture and stuff from the neighbor’s garage that we were keeping there. I opened up a box, saw this spider, moved it to the dirt area and then noticed it had a red underbelly. Hello black widow!
My mom fed them some homemade granola bars.
Loading up stuff, moving stuff, sweating hard in this heat wave.
Cuban food to celebrate my mom’s birthday (a bit late, but still happy we could all celebrate).
Zach’s cousins are in town to celebrate a birthday, so we drove to Downtown Disney to meet them at the bowling alley.
Zach’s insane form didn’t help him win
Still struggling through my puzzle, but I’m not going to give it up!
The apartment is still a mess, but we decided to pack up and go to the beach with the dogs for the afternoon.
Pups super excited to go to the dog beach
I took both dogs into the water, and it was actually pleasant. Usually the water is super cold, but I guess this heat wave was in my favor. I’m usually afraid of the ocean, but for some reason the water was relatively clear. It was nice to swim around and not be afraid.
I love this dog beach because the dogs can be off the leash and they wander around say hi. It’s so cute to see them all in the water running around too.
Ended the week with some Boiling Crab, nothing better.

Ready for some invasive, random questions? (Inspired by the nostalgia of Livejournal surveys, I borrowed these questions from thefridayfive on Livejournal from this month if you can believe it). Summer is on the brain for me. Answer if you’d like:
- What plans did you have for this summer?
- Have you accomplished them or is it still a work in progress?
- What would make this summer much better for you?
- When did you go back to school from summer break when you were a kid?
__
- What plans did you have for this summer?
This was my first summer in a few years that we, unfortunately, don’t have a summer intern, but this meant that I could take a little summer vacation and not feel bad for leaving an intern hanging at work. I was also hoping to do more outdoor-sy things, like hiking and camping… - Have you accomplished them or is it still a work in progress?
I’ve gone to the beach a few more times than I have in the past, but alas…still no hiking or camping. I’m not sure why I just cannot pull myself away to camp, I think I’m scared I’ll literally die in the wilderness because I’m ill-prepared. - What would make this summer much better for you?
I haven’t really thought about summer as a real ‘season’ since college since you don’t really have time off naturally in your schedule without school. But it’s been a nice mindset break to tell myself to relax, to go out on weeknights, enjoy the long day hours, etc. I think it’d be better if I could spend even more quality time with friends. I’ll make it happen… - When did you go back to school from summer break when you were a kid?
When I was younger, it was September. And in high school, sometime in August.

Thanks for reading! Hope you are having a good end to July.
Much love friends!
Welcome home! I don’t even have a dog and would just go to the dog beach to pet all of the ones that let me pet them.
What plans did you have for this summer?
– Unfortunately, after my car accident, I couldn’t make any summer plans (had to buy a new car), so there wasn’t much to my summer.
Have you accomplished them or is it still a work in progress?
– Work starts tomorrow (1 August) so that’s the end of my summer.
What would make this summer much better for you?
– I wish that the car accident hadn’t curtailed me, because I love travelling so much and not doing it this year really crushed my spirt. /depressive rant
When did you go back to school from summer break when you were a kid?
– When I lived in England and Germany, we’d go to school in September. When I came to America, going to school in early August was mind-blowing.
