MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: JUNE 11–17, 2018!

A work field trip takes my team downtown to see arts spaces (and dinosaurs). I spend the weekend indulging at Disneyland, spending time with family, and catching up on freelance work, with push-pop in hand.

Enjoy!

Monday night pottery studio—it’s finally time to glaze all my very wonky pieces. These are all made 100% on my own, different than the first pieces I completed which had a lot of help from the instructor. As messed up as these are, I’m proud that they are actually usable and not totally melted and messed up.

I love coming here. It’s like a work week vacation, I say that all the time. It seems like the staff is happier, the cafe is better, and the atmosphere is more relaxing.

And the best part is that even though you are in traffic on the way out, at least you are seeing the Pacific coast and the ocean.

Angel’s Flight! Takes TAP card now. This is a 117-year old funicular that connects Hill Street and Grand Avenue. When it opened in 1901, it was the world’s shortest railway. Bunker Hill (the hill that this funicular runs up) is now covered in hotels, government buildings, skyscrapers, museums, the Disney Concert Hall, and other upscale apartment developments. But in 1900, it was a residential suburb with beautiful two-story Victorian houses. The Angel’s Flight was built for these wealthy residents.

This area is squarely in Downtown LA, so I like imagining the Bunker Hill of the 20th century—a quiet suburb with nice views of the LA basin. A big contrast to now.

Went to see Incredibles 2 at the Downtown Disney theater. Did you see it? I thought it was really fun—a shame the plot and conflict were predictable and too similar to the original, but overall I liked it! And what I liked EVEN MORE was the Pixar short before, Bao. I cried during Bao, I kept thinking of my own mom. Wah. Bao! So good.

Ready for some invasive, random questions? (Inspired by the nostalgia of Livejournal surveys, I borrow these questions from glacier-kitty on Livejournal from 2018, this year baby, these are fresh). Answer if you’d like:

  1.  Would you rather 24 hours of daylight or 24 hours of night?
  2.  Are you named after anyone?
  3.  When you were young, what did you think you wanted to be when you grew up?
  4.  What’s one talent that you wish you had?

__

  1.  Would you rather 24 hours of daylight or 24 hours of night?
Daylight. I get too introspective and melancholy at night…24 hours of it would send me somewhere weird.
  2.  Are you named after anyone?
Not that I know of, but I do know that both my parents love the Hall and Oates song, “Sara Smile.”
  3.  When you were young, what did you think you wanted to be when you grew up?
    An architect.
  4.  What’s one talent that you wish you had?
The ability to intuitively cook. To aspire to just whip something up, and it’s amazingly good. To deeply understand ingredients and how they change and make a dish…*sigh*

Much love friends.

  1. Would you rather 24 hours of daylight or 24 hours of night?
24 hours of night, especially if I’m indoors. Since I can remember, I have never been a morning person. I do everything at night, clean, cook, read, netflix, play Sims, shower..

    Are you named after anyone?
    My grandma.

When you were young, what did you think you wanted to be when you grew up?
I wanted to work at the video rental shop lol. I was obsessed with movies and I still am, and I was always sooo jealous of the lady that worked at the rental shop close to my home and could watch all the movies for free.

What’s one talent that you wish you had?
I wish I was better at planing and time managing. I get caught up in too many things at once and then lose interest as wall as my time.

    1. I wish I could be a night person, because it’s true that Sims all night sounds like a dream.

Also, I also used to think about the people at video rental places. I remember seeing a movie where a character was in charge of rewinding all the VHS tapes so they had seen all the movies backwards…what movie is that?! I can’t remember…

  2. Ahhh I have so many *thoughts* on this post.

    1. I thought that Angels Flight was closed for some reason… was it closed for a time or am I thinking of something else?

    2. I am so glad to see that Disney has stepped up their food game in the past few years. I remember when they were mostly just a turkey legs and churros kind of place (along with free sourdough).

    3. I am probably in the minority, but I don’t really like Pixar much. I know, I know.

    4. Also, I need to see if your Fivrr thing is working again so I can finally order *_*.

    Your questions:
    1. That’s really difficult! Right now it is SO hot during the day, that I’d have to say 24 hours of night as long as I was in a larger city.

    2. My first AND middle names are both from relatives.

    3. Honestly, I kind of wish I was better at all things, but I’d love to improve my drawing skills.

    1. Angel’s Flight was closed for repairs! You aren’t wrong. I’m not sure how long they were closed for…but their reopening is pretty recent!

Disney has really been killing it, especially at California Adventure! They have all kinds of spicy awesome food, which I love. Have you seen the Pixar films? I guess they are newer, so they aren’t as nostalgic feeling for folks as the old Disney classics. But I love me an animated movie!

Is my Fiverr broken still? Wah!

      1. Yes, I have seen a bunch of the Pixar films. I don’t like them as much because they tend to be a little more sad in theme, even if it turns around in the end. I *know* that mom’s are always dying in straight Disney films, but the sadness in Pixar films is more addressed and prominent (versus like an off-screen death that happened pre-movie). It feels like a lot for a kids film, even though I’m an adult hahah. There are some that are good – I definitely don’t just blanket dislike Pixar.

i don’t think so. Will be ordering this payday! 😀

  3. Would you rather 24 hours of daylight or 24 hours of night?
I visited Iceland in 2016 and experienced endless days, and I loved it so much that when I came home night confused me. But it was never hot, which is what would happen if it were 24 hours of daylight here, where it’s hit 40 deg C (100F).

    Are you named after anyone?
    Vaguely after my father.

When you were young, what did you think you wanted to be when you grew up?
    An actress.

What’s one talent that you wish you had?
I wish I were musically talented; I’m rubbish at most instruments, but I can keep a tune.

  4. The card you made with the mickey mouse pancakes is too cute!

Would you rather 24 hours of daylight or 24 hours of night?
Definitely daylight – I need sunshine!

    Are you named after anyone?
My middle name (Belle) is for my great-grandmother.

When you were young, what did you think you wanted to be when you grew up?
A vet because I loved animals so much. I still love them but I don’t do well with medical things.

What’s one talent that you wish you had?
Drawing/being naturally crafty. Your posts inspire me but I don’t have a natural talent for it!

  5. Is that the same funicular featured in La La Land? 🙂
Sari Sari Store in the Philippines is like a convenience store located along streets in the Philippines, cute that they turned that concept into a food stall! Mango slushes are so popular here!
    I want a Sandianada now :((
OMG BAO MADE ME CRY :((

Who do you want to win Rupaul’s Drag Race?

    1. Daylight! Will take better pictures that way 🙂
    2. No one, unfortunately 😦
    3. I wanted to be a writer.
    4. I wish I could play the Piano!

    1. I had to google it, but YES Angel’s Flight is indeed in La La Land.

I wish I could have a mango slush every day *sigh* especially now in the summer when it’s so hot all of the time. I have to travel to the Philippines and try a slush from an actual Sari Sari Store!

RU PAUL HAPPENED. Did you watch? I was team Asia, but I think based on performances things went as they should. Was a great show.
