MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: AUGUST 29-SEPTEMBER 4, 2016
A week getting ready for my Alaska trip with family and then actually setting sail. Early days in Anchorage, Whittier, and the first day at sea! And…baby’s first glacier sighting.
Okay, first, if you haven’t seen my DSLR pics of the first few days of the Alaskan cruise adventure, see this post!
Enjoy!
Playing catch up on my weeks – I know! I’m sorry. Was going through and editing Alaska photos first, was being stubborn about that.
Sufi and his Monday morning scratches
Did I make a mistake getting this goopy green lunch?
Haven’t had pho in so long! Was craving it.
Tucked in on the couch with my fav OB Bear.
Tristan and I were working from the Villa on Tuesday, I took what I thought would be the fastest lunch to go to eat in the car…and it was hot broccoli soup. Mistake. It was probably 90 degrees that day and the frickin’ soup wouldn’t cool down.
I was eating it as fast as I could because Tristy and I wanted to sneak in an end of day hike at the nearby hiking trail.
That broccoli soup feelin’ bad in my tum.
Dragged Kiki down to 3rd Street to go to Uniqlo. I just wanted some new warm clothes for the upcoming Alaska cruise trip.
Cafe ramen, it’s not the best but when you’re craving it…
Kiki is kindly dog/house sitting, so I left her a lil’ present and note.
And in the wee hours on Thursday, I walk the dogs and head to the airport.
Lady really going for it and climbing on the seat.
Flying with my parents to Anchorage, Zach had to fly to New York the day before for a family thing and he’ll meet us in Anchorage.
It’s the best traveling with my mom cuz she’ll pack ur lunch.
Arrived in Anchorage and immediately greeted by a giant flounder? I think it’s a flounder…
Checked in at the Copper Whale, our cute lil’ Inn.
Headed to have brunch/lunch at Snow City.
Gotta love my dad’s food photography skills
King crab eggs benedict….*heavenly*
My dad and I rented bikes and went exploring along the Coastal Trail while my mom napped.
Beauty all AROUND. EVERYWHERE.
Resting after our lil’ bike adventure
We stopped at a liquor store nearby to get wine to bring aboard the cruise ship (they allow one bottle per person). I wanted to try these local brews too, the labels and names were too good to pass up.
My dad and I dragged my mom out again to the Coastal Trail so she could see what she missed earlier.
And then we headed into their downtown area to have a nice dinner.
A super delicious fresh and yummy herb-crusted halibut
Uh, ma…somebody wants your leftovers
My mom was freezing, obviously I had to torment her
Look at that sunset! So beautiful.
Sunset from the room. Zach was arriving at like 1am that night, so I went to bed as early as possible so I could wake up when he arrived and we could see the Northern Lights.
My mom’s friend recommended this place so she had to get a pic to send to her as a thank you.
Beautiful interiors, special family
Alaskan tribes, their clothes, arts, customs, languages, and stories.
I just liked the vibe of this small book – inspiration for when I get to working on the farm project.
A wonderful few hours spent here.
I found this little Japanese restaurant on yelp. I had a feeling it would be good because people were mad that it was slow and they wouldn’t let you make adjustments on sauces and stuff. Sounded traditional.
Plus they had this old cute guard pup
Snuck up breakfast from the arrangement downstairs to eat from a warm bed
It was time to leave Anchorage and head off to Whittier to catch the cruise ship.
My dad couldn’t stop looking out the windows because he wanted to see whales so badly.
We did see a baby moose running in a little clearing, which was very exciting. My mom missed it though, that’s all she could talk about for a while…how disappointed she was that she didn’t see the baby moose.
Our deck! Seriously thought I’d never figure out the layout of this big ass boat.
Tunnels beneath town that lead from the docks to the residential areas.
All aboard! Unpacked our stuff…I only brought one color scheme it seems.
Two slobs on this boat full of 60+ folks
We were on the boat way earlier than it was going to be departing, so we played basketball for a while as the boat was still at port.
I thought there would be a lot of downtime on the boat, just watching the ocean and sitting around. But the cruise director staff literally planned every hour. So we went to movie soundtrack trivia and WON! Free shitty champagne. We’ll take it, heck yeah.
Extra crispy bacon for breakfast
Mom going overboard on the bingo. We didn’t win. 😦
On Sunday they had a themed pub lunch!
Such a beautiful landscape, just so happy to be there.
Little orange boat to try to provide some scale
Two drinks in hand, enjoying the glacier
Random assortment of buffet items for dinner
Plus icecream. And now introducing my cruise uniform – I got this lamb-like hoodie for $20 and a Princess cap…I literally wore this combo of clothes almost all the time we were on board…like a lil’ old lady. Twas the best.
It was a formal night and I rolled up in my cap and fuzzy hoodie with icecream. Zach told me to stop being a troll, so we got our complimentary champagne at this fancy Captain’s welcome event and headed to the casino. My cousin works for Princess so we get great deals for cruises, thankful for that! It’s just so fascinating to me, the Titanic kind of vibes/aspects that attract some passengers. Seems a little cheesy to me, but hey, the best thing about the cruise is you can choose what you want to participate in. So no judgment from me. Pipe down Waldo.
And the next week is basically all Alaska goodies, so enjoy! 🙂
Much love friends.
