This is Monday, April 13, 2015!
A full day in Chicago with Kiki. A morning of coffee shop working, followed by fish stalking at the Shedd Aquarium, a trip up 303 stories on Skydeck, and so much fancy feasting.
Good morning from somebody else’s bedroom in “Bucktown” Chicago
Comfy corner attic bedroom
Peeking out into the hallway. Anybody home?
Home alone, let’s get showerin’
Morning light in the bathroom
Figuring out plans with Kiki for the morning. We both have some work to do.
I get started on our first Season 5 Game of Thrones recap that I work on with a manuscripts curator. We finally got some press about it! So exciting.
All ready to head off for the morning
Leaving the loft
Making my way downtown, walking fast, faces pass and I’m homebound
Chicago likes their stoop/garden sculptures
Trying to act local and not check my gps too much.
Found it, Cup & Spoon! And I see Kiki’s little face in the window.
Isn’t sheeee loooovely
Having some coffee, a poppyseed muffin (cuz why not) and finishing up work
About an hour later we’re done and free to have our girls day
Dropping off our laptops and big bags
Checking to make sure everything is posted and okay
I want to call this neighborhood Logan Square
But I’m not 100% on my Chicago neighborhood geography
How much is that doggy in the window…the one with the waggily tail?
That’s a lot of brick
Catching the L
What are you looking for Kikz
I spy a Chicago dog mural
Got off at the edge of the park, the side with all the museums.
Navigating through the park
Toward museum campus
It’s such a bright, lovely day!
The view from museum campus is just…THE BEST
Perfect little puffy clouds
We were thinking “I wish a hotdog stand was here…” and bam there was one
LOOK at those Chicago dogs. Pickle spear, tomato, peppers, dill, onions, relish, NO KETCHUP
The perfect view with a perfect hotdog
Shedd Aquarium! Fancy ass building
Little aquatic details
Lights look like anemones
It was quite expensive to get an all access pass for the whole aquarium, so we paid for the first level only.
Not disappointing though!
ANACONDA. So huge…
Tiny adorable monkeys
Reel her in
Bright blue lobster
Alligator turtle! Looks like a dinosaur
A fish that looks like it’s been skinned
Kiki flipping off the iguana
Diver feeding all the fish in the round central tank
Petting a ray
More fun lights that look like rays
Gift shop octopus
Back out into the world
Up to the platform
Back in downtown
Dunkin’ Donuts stop for some coffee and hashbrowns
Sitting looking out the window from below street level
Headin’ to skydeck
303 floors up!
Remembering that one of these ledges cracked recently…
Babe, pig in the city
Looks like Sim City to me. Gonna do a quick google to see where Maxis is located…whoa SimCity was developed in Emeryville…aka Bay Area. Nevermind. Idea foiled.
Successful Sim City
Giving the legs a rest
Circling around and around, getting our money’s worth
Thank god this exists
Personal elevator for VIPs aka us aka it was just empty.
The most Chicago man I’ve ever seen
Met up with some of Kiki’s friends to take a wander pre-dinner
Magic hour Chicago
Sears aka Willis Tower aka Skydeck’s location poking out in the background
Back in this old neighborhood
West Loop realness
Here for some appetizers, beers, and to use as a meet up location
Colee made it!
It got dark so quickly! We scurried over to the Publican, our planned fancy dinner eve.
A spread of oysters
Colee’s first raw oyster
Fancy pork rinds
Was a lovely dinner. And I look like a vampire.
Back to bed
My silly little fitbit tells me I almost walked 20,000 steps today
Time for the finer things in life
Sleep and an episode of SVU.
Much love friends!
