A Day in My Life: Saturday, August 25, 2018!
Spending the day with my family: first with my mom at H Mart and then with my cousins to celebrate their birthday. We also sneak in a viewing of Crazy Rich Asians and manage to guilt my dad into sharing some popcorn.
Enjoy!
Slept in on this fine Saturday.
Coffee first before anything else. I’ve toyed with the idea of putting the coffee pot by my bed so I’m more encouraged to wake up.
Hard to get out of bed when the pups are still in their cozy positions. I usually like to take my coffee back to bed and do my scrolling and phone things as I slowly wake up.
I always pull these two socks out of the laundry and accidentally match them, one is yellow and one is green but also who cares.
Sunscreen and my running clothes
Blank Check—I like running to their banter about movies. This day I was listening to their Incredibles episode.
Sweaty and with chapped lips but I did manage to hit 5 miles…slowly but surely. I try to do a longer run on Saturdays, but it doesn’t always happen.
Took a little more coffee to go with me in my thermos.
Nice hot weather today. I keep wearing jackets out thinking it’ll be warm enough to enjoy layers…but…alas.
Load up the car with book gifts I got for my little cousins.
Reply All is queued up and I’m ready to drive.
Tubby is stretched out across the floor and my dad is heating up leftovers for lunch. A likely scene.
A few days earlier I had sent my mom the beautiful piece by Michelle Zauner “Crying in H Mart”, and my mom told me she wanted to take me to H Mart. (She’s not Korean, but I think equally moved by the sentiment of the story).
Picked out a few veggies here and there, and marveled at all the packages of takuan.
The meat and seafood selection was insane. Truly wished I had an event in mind to cook for so I could pick out more things.
Picked out a few ramen packages for myself.
Ordered some chicken wings at the food court and waited. My mom called my dad to coordinate some food drop off at my cousin’s house. Her hand is still in pain (she fell a few weeks back) but she says it is getting better.
Sweet and spicy chicken with a side of radish
My mom picked up popcorn from H Mart and brought it home so she could divide it up and share with the family. My dad started eating it and she got annoyed and insisted we pour some out for the family now so my dad wouldn’t eat it all. A classic tale.
We stopped at my cousin’s house so my parents could drop off some food for later, plus some popcorn.
Pasadena Paseo, here to go to the movies. My mom always prefers Arclight because she gets nervous about not being able to sit together. I think she overestimates the number of people who go out to the movies still…
We showed up a few minutes before the movie, which I’m grateful for. My dad has a habit of wanting to show up WAY TOO early for anything, but over time he’s let himself relax and stress less. He even got us some drinks.
We saw Crazy Rich Asians, there’s been a LOT of discussion and discourse in my Internet circle about the film. After the film, my mom and I looked at each other and thought “Meh, not really for us!” She and I have never been into rom coms (she’s who turned me onto true crime after all) but we thought it was cute! My dad LOVED IT. Turns out he’s the real romance lover out of the family.
Back over to my cousin’s house for dinner.
First signs of the little cousins.
Hawaiian bbq food from Shakas for dinner.
Some combined birthday celebrations
And then they requested that I curl their hair with a REAL curling iron. To be honest, I was a little nervous. I never style my hair and I haven’t used a hot tool in…years.
Flattering angle, thanks cousin. I appreciate they are both interested in using my camera, so I let them snap away.
Curled hair success! She ran away so I couldn’t get a good pic.
Played an intense few round of this squirrel board game.
Saying hi to other cousins via Facetime.
Love you, parents. A familiar goodbye scene. “Text me when you get home!”
Zach ordered ramen and had Meet the Parents on in the background.
Just enough energy for a face mask. I need to use the rest of this stuff before it goes bad. (For those with eczema-prone skin, do you have any favorite face masks? So many sheet masks dry me out, but I’m open to ideas!)
He finds some uncomfortable looking spaces to lay on.
Zach watches The Office into the night…
It’s only 10pm, but I’m pooped. It’ll be laptop time for me.
Thank you for reading!
Much love friends.
All of our movie theatres here in Jacksonville FL have assigned seating now. You pick your seat when you buy your ticket. It makes it much less stressful as long as you purchase them online before you go. (As an added bonus you can even buy and have refreshments delivered to your seat! Fancy!)

Wowowo! We have a few theaters here like that, but that’s definitely not the standard. Especially refreshments to the seat! Fancy.

H Mart looks so amazing. You shouldn’t put the coffee pot in your room because then you’ll just climb right back into bed. Thanks for sharing your day as usual!

Thanks for sharing your day with us. Random question: where did you find your red workout bag/backpack?
I need that bag 🙂
Thanks again!

Hi! The backpack is by Himawari. I found it on Amazon by searching “diaper bag.” I just checked my past orders and the page doesn’t exist anymore! But it is possible another seller makes them.
