A DAY IN MY LIFE: THURSDAY, AUGUST 9, 2018! (TYPICAL WORK DAY AND TRAVELING TO SAN FRANCISCO)
Photographing all of an average day at my job plus the journey between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Tacos appear. Enjoy!
That 6:50 warm morning sun, I love it. Good morning!
I packed some of my things the night before, it’s become just a pile at the foot of the bed.
I’m still working on a puzzle, the same puzzle I started months ago it feels like. And we don’t have an official table in the living room so it just kind of sits there taking up space until I finally get around to finishing it.
I’m a morning person—I actually look forward to getting out of bed and getting my coffee. Or maybe I’m just a coffee addict?
Glenn the gecko says good morning.
I have my coffee in bed while I fart around on my phone—PokemonGo these days, checking comments on this blog, scrolling through socials…
Then I sneak to the bathroom to quickly get ready for work.
I go to the work gym in the mornings, so I pack up my clothes for the work day, my lunch and snack, and my toiletries.
Gym clothes on and I’m ready to go.
I talk to my mom on the way to work—sad I don’t have a carpool buddy anymore but I still try to leave early.
When I was in Switzerland I was joking with my Swiss friend that all the ads in Basel were for Swiss milk from happy Swiss cows and the ads I see are for STD checks (right on, they are important).
People already there getting there fitness on. One of my colleagues actually gets there around 6am! Insane.
I’ve been watching Orange is the New Black, but I only let myself watch at the gym as motivation to keep going to the gym. I’m in Season 5 right now, no spoilers please!
Another photo in the series of “photos I hate of myself that I’ll still post” because it’s good for me. You can see my first obvious gray hair that Kiki pointed out to me a few months back (it’s in my bangs) and I refuse to pluck. Also, my skin has been really terrible, dry but also breaking out? I don’t know how to deal with eczema-prone skin that is breaking out. And yeah. Nothing else to add, but that’s my gross face. Reality!
I work at an arts institution in Los Angeles, but I don’t often go out and enjoy the art and architecture. Most of my work is done on digital projects and on the website, so I work in basement…no sun!
Little gopher Tristan. My view whenever I walk into the office and he’s there first, his little head poking up above the cubicle.
We usually grab a coffee in the morning, sometimes tidy up the kitchen area.
Scurrying off to some meetings before lunch time.
I usually pack a lunch, but today I didn’t have any leftovers. So I got tacos at the cafe.
Afternoon meeting with Tristan. I’m helping him on one of his projects, it’s fun to get formal meeting requests from him hah.
All day I’ve been in a text conversation with Lauren about what we were planning to do about the new clear bag policy that was going to be enforced at Outsidelands. She ended up buying herself a fanny pack.
I wrapped up everything right at 5 and headed out. We have a flight to catch!
Listening to the newest My Favorite Murder
It’s still 81 degrees, even without sun. I hope when we’re back from San Francisco the heat wave is less intense.
Bumper to bumper traffic, wouldn’t be a Los Angeles commute without it!
The sun was super bright and dramatic looking. Hard to capture, but it was almost apocalyptic feeling.
I wash my face and finish up packing.
This package arrived for me with shoes I bought online. I don’t really wear heels, but I thought these were comfy looking and casual enough that I could pull it off. Not 100% sure though, gotta sleep on it.
BYE, PUPS! See you in a few days.
Got my overstuffed backpack with warm clothes for the weather in San Francisco.
The sun was still being a mysterious burning red ball as we arrived to the airport.
We arrived early enough with time to get some food.
Shorter line, Pick Up Stix it is! Haven’t had this in a while, I used to go to one in a nearby town in high school a lot.
Some shrimp and chicken over chow mein
Phone city as everybody waits at the gate.
They dimmed the lights, so naturally I fell asleep. I woke up with about 15 minutes left in the flight and turned to my no-service favorite game, Ballz.
Less than an hour from takeoff we made it to San Francisco.
Waiting patiently to get our bags and go
Into the city, it was all mystical and enchanted feeling with all the mist.
Made it to Lauren’s place and she buzzed us in.
Lauren saved me some yuzu icecream. Delicious.
Modeling her new fanny pack aka bum bag (cuz yessss, I know that “fanny” isn’t a great word in UK English aha)
Getting settled in for the evening with The Office on in the background.
From my air mattress in San Francisco to you, goodnight!
It’s been a while since I documented a day, it was really fun. I hope to do a few more soon—I hope you enjoyed this! (Hope it wasn’t too boring.)
Thanks for reading. Much love friends.
Yes to not plucking the grey! I’ve sprouted my first few ones this year
And I definitely miss and love your more in depth ADIML posts!

How much vacation time do you get at the Getty? You seem to be always traveling.

At the Getty, staff are lucky to have every other Friday off. When I travel for short periods of time, I try to time my travel to correspond with these off Friday days so I can save up my paid vacation time for longer trips. We accrue vacation hours over time, and that time rolls over every year.

Whoa, that is an AWESOME benefit!

I too, work in a place without windows, and I suffer greatly for it. It’s one of my least favourite things about my job, of which I have a very long list. I love seeing days; I’ve been obsessively reading the Russian ones on livejournal to satisfy my addiction haha. Thanks for keeping the flame alive — I still do as well over on livejournal, because old habits die hard, huh?

Did you end up keeping the shoes?
I had a Vietnamese friend tell me one time that there are all different ways to hold chopsticks, and that they vary throughout different Asian cultures (i.e. the Vietnamese may hold their chopsticks different than most Japanese, etc.). I don’t know if this is true, but I thought it was interesting!
Is that the “boy have you lost your mind? cause I’ll help you find it” episode of The Office? lol!

I still have them (but am hanging onto the receipts too)…not 100% sure…hah
That is interesting (about the chopsticks). I’ve also heard that chopsticks aren’t the preferred utensil for all of Asia, in Thailand for example I heard that a spoon and fork are preferred for rice dishes… #themoreyouknow
AND YES hahah, iconic Stanley. Impressive that you got that from one still.
