MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: FEBRUARY 12–18, 2018! (DIY BOILING CRAB, FISH MARKET, HORSE RACING)
Food illustrations, a visit to the fish market, meeting up with old friends, and going to my old high school. Enjoy!
Sunrise on an early carpool morning, a real treat for having to wake up at 6am.
The hot sauces and seasonings arrived! I’ve been googling DIY Boiling Crab cajun seafood boil recipes and these ingredients kept popping up.
The evening sky also a beautiful treat.
Dressed like a tablecloth today
Couldn’t be bothered to cook! Thai food delivery for dinner.
Sufi sitting there like an evil movie boss
Still very into my short hair. I wish I could be on top of getting it cut more regularly.
It’s the best when my lunch leftovers aren’t just a sad bag of salad.
Tristan organized a letter writing lunch to send letters to Little Miss Flint for the Black Panther screening she organized for the kids of Flint
Everybody’s sticker collections were astonishingly good. I got to take this baby back to my desk.
We went to try izakaya at Tsubaki in Echo Park. I think it was overpriced for a slightly better than okay meal. I did like their salad with fried lotus though!
Happy THURSDAY! Tonight I am going back to my old high school to watch my little cousin’s playoff basketball game. Busted out my old volleyball sweatshirt that I designed that makes absolutely no sense.
Weird to be back…but it was really a fun game. The whole time it was super close and at the very end we pulled ahead.
If you remember my high school days, I probably showed this place before. It’s a staple for the city’s youths.
You have to put the seasoning salt on the fries and in the ranch!
Home in time to catch some Olympics
I took my blanket out of the dryer and put it on the couch. Went to refill my waterbottle and when I came back a little booger was sitting on it…
Happy Friday! Marie is in town and we agreed to meet at 6:30am at a downtown fish market.
Everybody is required to wear little hair nets and gloves and then you enter what is basically a big refridgerated warehouse of fish.
I think we missed the rush where the restaurants pick their fresh seafood, so you could tell there were some areas where everything was gone. Wonder what was there…but they had crabs, scallops, oysters, fish, and were busy cutting up salmon and tuna!
So many things I want to come back and try sometime.
Marie choosing some fresh prawns to take home
We’ll meet up later to cook all our goodies.
Packed up our sea treasures in ice
Didn’t end up keeping the hairnets on all day but we should have
Thank you Marie for suggesting the 6:30am meet up, worth it!!
On our way back still no traffic or anything. Nice.
I’m definitely late on this, but I didn’t realize they sold Tim Tams at our grocery store!
Set up to do some serious photo editing today.
After watching a few youtube tutorials we figured out how to shuck the Kumamoto oyster with a screwdriver
My mom made me a sweater!!!!! Look at how beautiful it is. I love it.
Working through farm photos for two books I’m working on for Zach’s sister
Working into the evening. Marie came over and also worked in the other room.
Got the seafood out of the ice chest
We are attempting a seafood boil
So we boiled all the seafood separately. I really need to get bigger pots at some point. And I tried to make a Boiling Crab sauce dupe but it was a fail. My bad!
After sauce! We still ate it all.
We’re going to the race track today! I thought this was too formal but I’m always trying to wear my coats but California life doesn’t really let me.
Horse racing today! Wooooo, first bet was a win!
Everybody “studying” the races for the day but nobody really knows what we’re looking for.
*Whew* The day was a blur of 9 races every 30 minutes. We had to pick our horses, look at them, grab food and drinks, and place bets. All in all I left with about $10, pretty good!
Caught another basketball game, the second playoff game. My high school lost unfortunately…was still fun to watch!
Worked on a pizza illustration! You can order any food you want and I’ll try my best to illustrate here.
Continued working on an illustration for Lauren
Tried the Blaze doritos and Zach made smoothies. ALL about balance.
Pleased with my shirt purchase
Met up with a former colleague at Cafe Dulce. How can you resist! I don’t even love sweets but everything looks so cute.
Then I met up with Jill and her boyf to grab a beer at Boomtown.
BBQ sandwich and a game of Flash Point. It’s a collaborate game and we usually lose…but we won this time!!
Ended the night with some Coolhaus icecream. I got a fruit loops and bourbon flavor.
I’ll leave it here. Goodnight.
Hope you are having a good week! Much love friends.
You know you are getting old when you use the word “youths” to describe others 😀 lol

I can try! Thank you, so nice.
Happy belated Valentine’s to you too!
The races are only $5 to get in to and you don’t have to bet if you don’t want. All-in-all pretty affordable entertainment for the day! If you are ever near a track, try it!
Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are seriously amazing. I love how much the Internet wishes they were dating haha.

CUTE HAIRCUT GAL!
Aw Tristan’s letter writing idea is lovely! I bet those kids loved getting such fun and thoughtful letters. Black Panther was so good, and it must have meant so much to the kids of Flint to have their own special screening of such a special film.
Is your cousin playing with the same team you used to play for? I remember those posts of you and your basketball games!
You are a true friend to Marie to go buying fish at 6:30am! I bet it tasted amazing when you cooked it – so fresh!!
I told you this already, but I love the pasta poster.

THXX!!!
Yeah! My little cousin plays for the same team, I’m so proud. I miss playing basketball…made me think I should try to find a place to play or a local league.
I want to be sure the pasta poster can print well, I need to find a service online to try. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll print a few. I made it for Lauren, she’s gifting it.
Hope you’re well!

Haha I’m glad I’m not the only person on here who remembers that gym from your wayyyy back ADIMLs. I’m definitely going to order off of fiverr but I haven’t been able to decide on a food! I love all of your big, comfy sweaters!!

❤ Thank you for considering ordering something! And yesss I love winter because I love sweaters and scarves but often LA winters aren't cold enough to wear my fun coats or sweaters. 😦

They really aren’t! It was really disappointing when I lived down south, but also now that I live somewhere with more defined seasons, I’m freezing. haha
