A DAY IN MY LIFE: AUGUST 6, 2017!
Morning with the dogs at the park, making spicy shrimp tacos at home, a reunion with James over ramen, learning to play Dominion, Game of Thrones, and a brief tarot reading.
Enjoy!
Good morning! Most days I wake up and one of the two dogs is sleeping on my pillows directly next to me, and today is no different.
Slept in a bit, feeling well rested.
I love the apartment in the morning when the sun sneaks into the kitchen.
Tiny coffee grounds scattered everywhere
Is it true some people don’t have that tendon in the arm? (Not even sure if it is a tendon). Do you have it? Make your hand into a pinching shape, but with all fingers not just the pointer and thumb. I could also describe it as if you imagine a sock puppet was on your hand…that shape? Face the sock puppet’s face towards you eyes, does that little tendon appear?
Back to my unmade bed, I’m going to do a little work with my coffee from there.
The curator I work with for Game of Thrones is also sending me quotes that are either from the Middle Ages or Game of Thrones. This one can be found here.
I decided that I really want to do a field fest with the Fujifilm X series, so I can decide if they will work for me. I decided to rent a camera and lens so I could carry around the camera for three days at an upcoming music festival for a true test.
Sufi is thrilled. Where are we going?
It’s cute having Sufi sit on your lap, but the thing is he sharpens his own claws. He bites his nails. Yes, for real. Can you tell my legs have little claw marks on them? *Ouch*
It’s a little dry this time of year (slash always)
Tweedy smiling at some hummingbirds that are high up in the trees.
Meanwhile the pups are refueling.
The cutest thing ever is Tweedy running excitedly but he rare does it.
This open field was grassier at one point, but it the drought got to it I suppose.
Every time we’d pass a tree, Tweedy would run to sit under it.
And then when we got too far away he’d run after us.
Messaged received, pups! We’ll give you a break in the shade.
Nobody was around so we let Sufi off his leash. Can you see him in the distance smelling around?
Keep exploring, this is your chance.
Tweedy, disinterested in fetch. I miss Yoko, she was so playful.
Sufi in the distance watching a family walk by.
Tweedy walking in Zach’s shadow the whole way out.
“Hey, I hear a swarm of bees! Let me get closer…”
Taking the tired and dusty pups back home.
Sufi is so tired he doesn’t even bother sitting on my lap and scratched up my legs.
The seasonings aisle is out of control.
How many pesticides are on these apples? Hm.
In line at the check out counter. I have a feeling this photo in particular will be fun to look back on in like 4 years.
Yay, my new converse are finally looking more used and lived in.
Putting away what we don’t need right away.
And separating out lunch! We’re gonna make spicy shrimp tacos with garlic cilantro lime slaw, from a recipe I found here.
So this is all the stuff that goes into the sauce that makes the slaw. Zach is on sauce duty.
These are the goodies for a mixture that is better salsa, in my opinion.
I’m on shrimp duty. They needed to be deshelled.
Now I get to choose my seasonings. The recipe calls for cumin and chili powder, but I want even more salties. I didn’t use all of this…but most of it. 🙂
Cayenne, cumin, chili powder, garlic salt, pepper, regular salt…
Marie taught me to add a little brown sugar so the outside carmelizes.
Zach finished the sauce and added it to chopped up cabbage
To serve, the recipe recommonds smashing some avocado down, then putting the shrimp and the slaw, I also added some of my salsa mix and a little lime. SOOO friggin good.
Feeling slightly food-coma-ish, so some iced coffee to power through.
Next Class!!!! Who is watching? I watched Seasons 1 and 2 in like, a night of building a puzzle, and then Zach joined me and he’s hooked too. Okay, who are your favorite characters? Here’s my top 3: Lola, Esme, and Rasha. Others that I enjoy: Zoe, Tristan, Grace, Saad, Winston.
*Takes 2 seasons to recognize her white privilege*
Slowly learning a few easy bass parts in songs from Zach.
So far I can play the bass part to Weezer’s El Scorcho and Fleetwood Mac’s Everywhere. Slow progress…
Some of my favorite gifts ever. RIP Roll N Rye.
Organized the “travels” section of this blog, if you are curious to read more about trips I’ve taken, I put up this post this week: 5 Defining Travel Experiences Over the Last 5 Years.
I’m supposed to be doing some homework for my user experience research class, but instead I decided to clean and tidy the apartment.
Cleaned the sink, mirror, and toilet
I know it’s hard to tell because I’m a cluttered pereson but this is tidied.
And then I finally get started on my homework.
Zach returns from comedy world
Finished up as much homework as I could.
It’s a puzzle journal…can’t wait to try it.
Wearing this bag I haven’t worn for a while designed by my friend Maria.
My favorite ramen spot, Shin Sen Gumi.
James and Dan are back from their summer piano camps! Celebrating their return with ramen.
I always go for fried onion chips, corn, spicy miso, and not pictured, a seasoned soft boiled egg.
The little moon in the distance. I think it’s a full moon.
Playing a game and waiting for Game of Thrones to air.
Time for the main event—Season 7, Episode 4 of Game of Thrones!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alright, the episode happened (OMG). You know Kiki is serious when she’s hand gesturing like this.
It’s a full moon and Kiki brought her tarot deck.
My card, Queen of Cups. From a site called “BiddyTarot” ha, but does match with Kiki’s book:
One of the greatest assets of the Queen of Cups is her ability to sense the needs of those around her. Due to her associations with the element of water, the Queen of Cups can be passive and receptive. Her sensitivity draws those who struggle and suffer towards her. In many ways, she is a safe harbor for others. Her ability to connect on a soul level enables her to remedy the broken hearts of others. Her warmth and genuine caring make her a beacon of light. Because she is so responsive to the feelings of others, the Queen of Cups must constantly uphold her boundaries between herself and others. If not properly protected, the Queen of Cups can lose her own sense of self. This is her greatest vulnerability.
I wash and moisturize my friggin sensitive face.
Claritin before bed, every single night.
I read the Game of Thrones subreddit post-premiere discusson thread.
And fall asleep just before midnight.
This was a long one! Thanks for sticking through it till the end.
Much love friends.
I love this post!!! I really want to try doing this one day! Also, your puppy is too cute.

I always enjoy your posts, and I have especially enjoyed your cute bungalow/cottage (not sure what you call them???) I love the colours and all the art and even though I am a bit more minimalist, I love how homey it looks like. Your home looks like a lovely place to be. And the rest of your day looked fantastic and I’m definitely going to try that shrimp taco–minus avocado.
