THIS IS FRIDAY, JUNE 16, 2017!
Watch as I fall into a deep The Handmaid’s Tale wormhole, hang out with my dad and mom for Father’s Day, slip into work for an event, and catch the second half of an film screenings ft. films by asian filmmakers organized by my collective.
Enjoy!
Would you like to read a piece I wrote for work (and made 2/3 of the media elements)? I’m proud of it.
Took one photo of Mickey and he’s protective
Parental units come over and bring breakfast. It’s Father’s Day weekend and today my dad put together his itinerary so we are just here to follow it…
Breakfast burrito all the way from Pasadena
Caught in traffic for a while, stretch it out
My dad loves history and wanted to visit these drum barracks that are remnants from California’s history during the Civil War.
Unfortunately they weren’t open, but my dad already knew that. He just wanted to see the building…hah.
Banning House, a 23-room residence built in 1864.
We wandered around the property for a little bit, again…not open.
My mom, always knitting. Here she’s showing off her newest pattern.
Stopped by a local San Pedro winery, my dad wanted to buy a few bottles. Not sure how good it is, ha, but the building is very charming.
Mom is ready to hit the road for the next activity
A view of the ocean! We’re headed that way…
The U.S.S. Iowa, a battleship used in WW2, the Korean War…
“Imagine knitting with this rope…”
The USS Iowa was retired to San Pedro a few years ago.
And a doggo scavenger hunt (based on a real dog that did live on board while the ship was sailing around the world). “Vicky” aka “Victory”
It’s a “Museum” now but Zach had to remind me a few times that a lot of people died because of this ship, and died on this ship. War is bad. π¦
San Pedro Harbor in the distance
More on Vicky the doggo mascot
Other high up officer quarters
Really leaning into the tourist vibes
Franklin D. Roosevelt stayed in this room (that’s why the door way has no flood wall) as he was in a wheelchair.
Apparently a very special bath
My parents used to work for a phone company so they loved commenting on the wiring
The tour was self-guided and we just wandered all around the boat, unattended for the most part.
A model of the boat set up in the gallery area
Kim’s in Crenshaw!
My parents have been coming here foreverβI’ve been here a few times. And this time we noticed they had renovated and taken all the paper photos off the wall noooo.
Back to the apartment. A few hours before I have to head to work.
Handmaid’s Tale. Please watch. So good.
Nearly caught up with My Favorite Murder
To work to cover an event for the evening
Goodbye visitors, straight to my bat cave
Working on promoting this post
Spongebob headphones and zits? It me.
This event has a few artists perform around the site across the evening, so we went scouting.
Piece by Brendan Fernandez and How to Dress Well called Free Fall 49, a tribute to the victims of the Pulse shooting…but also a defiant gesture of joy and love.
Back to edit in the office. (If you are curious, just put together this short clip)
I had to rush off to another event across town, had a long drive ahead of me and was racing the clock.
It’s getting darker and darker…
Looking for the film screening room (I’m late!)
So full that people were spilling out the door
Zach was in there so kiind he got there on time so actually had a seat in there.
An evening of film screenings by asian artists and experimental filmmakers living in LA, organized by amwa. I take no credit for the suggest, I just help with website management, social media occasionally, and we eat dinner together π
Was feeling a little worn down and my natural stressball move was to pick up a salty snack and prepare to binge on The Handmaid’s Tale
Time to journey to the hell world of GileadβI just can’t leave.
I took this pic at 11:13 sure but I enjoyed my evening takis and a few episodes before falling asleep.
Much love friends.
Belated Happy Father’s Day to your Dad! π
I love these ADIML posts.
Love how your dad loves eating asian food, It’s exactly how we eat here in Asia hahaha…
And I’ve always been saying this haha, but I really enjoy how grown up your ADIML posts are now because of the change in photography style also π

I guess I haven’t noticed that my photography style has changed! Is it a good change? Or more boring…haha
