MY WEEK IN PHOTOS: APRIL 10–17, 2017!

A week on a family cruise down the Mexican Riviera with stops in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas. A little cruise life, pictures of Mexico, swimming in the ocean, fresh oysters, and settling back in afterwards with family and friends to celebrate Easter.

Enjoy!

Untitled Good morning! Another day at sea. I woke up and tried to get over to the “no kids” pool as early as possible to get a lounge chair but at around 9am there weren’t chairs left. No people. But they came early to leave their stuff to “claim” spots. CUT. THROAT. Untitled
Eventually moved around a few chairs till we had two together. Rewarded myself with a mimosa.

Untitled Free slot tournament time! Untitled
I have never done a slot tournament, but you all have the same amount of time to just bash the “spin” button as quickly as possible and hope you have the highest total by the end.

Untitled Jeopardy trivia! Untitled
Untitled Untitled
Went to the steakhouse for a fancy dinner (while it was formal night around the ship). We didn’t dress up, but boy did Zeen order the friggin’ biggest steak I’ve ever seen.

Untitled We made it to Puerto Vallarta Untitled
We got to leave the boat! Hooray!

Untitled Untitled
We signed up to visit the south part of the bay, to go snorkeling and kayaking and see a more typical fishing village.

Untitled Untitled
So sunny and the sea spray felt so nice

Untitled Made it to our first stop to try kayaking and snorkeling. Untitled

Untitled It was jellyfish season and there were little floating jellies everywhere Untitled

Then we arrived at Yelapa, the fishing village

We were guided through the streets of Yelapa before being led out to the beach where there was more of a resort style set up going on.

Untitled

Untitled
We spent an hour or so on the sand. Zach went swimming again, I read.

Untitled
Cut to: the next morning!

Untitled
Untitled
We arrived in Mazatlan and hopped on a guided tour around the city

Coconut-shaped baskets

Untitled
Untitled
Walked through a beach passage and found some fresh oysters being sold on the beach. Earlier on the tour the guide pointed out some oyster divers, and she mentioned that folks dive for oysters in the morning and shuck oysters on the beach in the day.

Untitled
Untitled
Also got a coconut!

Mmmm

The homes were all different colors and textures the further away from the city center that we wandered.

Untitled
Untitled
Untitled
We were parched and thought “Oh, a beer sounds nice.” We came across the only micro-brewery in Mazatlan by accident, and it was such a happy surprise.

Untitled
Untitled
Untitled
Untitled
Made some friends with some Ex-Pats from US, talked with the brewery owner and master brewer. Tres Islas!

Untitled
Eventually found our way back on board

Untitled
Untitled
Went up to the upper decks.

Untitled
Looked back over the city. Tried to point to where the brewery is from the cruise ship hah, but I definitely want to come back to Mazatlan someday.

Untitled
More ship activities…following my mom around the casino aha and playing Monopoly Deal with Zeen.

  1. I love your travel photos! Looks like you had a blast. This makes me want to go to Mexico so much! Mazatian looks like such a gem ❤

    1. Thank you for reading! As much as I love being on the water, I’m much more of a city person. It was fun to wander Mazatlan and see how life in the city was for folks.

  2. Such a fun week! And sooo much food haha, it’s making me hungry just looking at it. I feel like I need to convince my friends to play D&D as well, seems like such a fun game.

  3. Saraah, is that a full frame camera I spy in the pictures? I’m not sure whether to bother bringing mine… Did you find the weight bothersome?!

    Like

    1. Yes! It’s the canon 5d mark II—pretty heavy, a little cumbersome. If you have a tote or backpack you can slip it in and out of covertly…that always makes me feel better about carrying it around. I always prefer having nice quality pictures, especially of travel, and so I find the heaviness worth its weight 🙂

  4. That steak on the American flag plate is cracking me up. So patriotic

Eeeek jellyfish! There were lots of tiny ones in the sea in Greece. What even are jellyfish?? They are such odd creatures.

Where did Zach get his Tatooine t-shirt from? I think my boyfriend would love one.

Mexico looks absolutely beautiful – so lush against the blue skies! Did you speak any Spanish? I can just about remember your high school posts about Spanish class!

    That sea!!! So clear!
One day you should visit the Scilly Isles off the Cornish coast. They are beautiful and the water around the islands is so clear and warm in the summer it feels almost tropical.

    NOPE. SNAILS. NOPE.

I find it so funny that GBBO has a different name in the US. The Great British Baking Show sounds weirdly generic!

What is your D&D character’s name?

    1. Hahah! I feel bad that I didn’t even notice the plate—sadly I’m desensitized to the flag being everywhere.

Apparently we learned the big ones don’t sting but the little ones do? I could just be a weenie, but I felt like sting marks on my face and neck and back for the rest of the day—maybe from little jelly particles in the water?!?

Disneyland! Here’s a sketch link that might work?

I can read/understand Spanish waaaaaay better than I can speak it. I found myself digging into the depths of my Spanish vocab as we walked around to read/listen to people.

I’d love to visit the Scilly Isles! Anything with warm/clear water sounds so tempting to me. I went to the beach this past weekend and the water was so sandy and cold…and full of sharks.

I don’t know why “Great British Bake Off” needed a name change at all! That seems pretty clear to me…also our Netflix only gets seasons 3, 4 and 5 and apparently there’s a season 1 and 2 we can’t access! Boo.

Hlin Hilldwarf 🙂 I’m a dwarf cleric alchemist sooo.
